I'm looking for a shorter LOP replacement stock for my 20" 590S with ghost ring sights.

Uses will be buckshot to 25 yards and slugs to 100 yards on dinner plate sized targets.

I'll road hunt rabbits and grouse with it as well.

I know the Magpul will probably be most people's recommendation but I'd appreciate other options including telescoping or even folding stocks.

With winter clothes or armor on the current 14" LOP is too long for my arms.

12" Hogue definite candidate.

Has anyone chopped their OEM stock and installed a new pad?

I assume you need a smaller pad so cut it to say 12.75" LOP then find recoil pad close to right size?

I have cut an inch (approx 13” LOP) off a wood stock on an old 500 that I have. In my case I was able to grind the pad down that was already on there. I think it’s a Pachmayr but I can’t say for sure as the name was defaced for reasons unknown.

It can be an issue to reattach the buttpad once you've chopped a typical plastic stock - The screw holes need to be a certain length, and if you take off too much stock you'll have a problem.

The Hogue 12" is a good option. Nice stock, as far as plastic goes. And a pretty cheap experiment if you don't like it, whereas you can ruin your factory plastic stock by chopping it (as above).

I have a ati m4 adjustable on my 535 ATS. Works great and has several different length settings. If you don't use the screw holding the buffer tube you can just pull it off and you're left with a vertical pistol grip. ATI sells a slip on rubber pad as well. I used mine alot when shooting 3.5" buckshot and turkey loads. It's held up great and I've also got a side saddle on the buttstock as well

I cut 3/4" off but I broke one of the screw holes so I'll have to drill a new hole.

Have it taped on for now and it feels much better with the 13.5" LOP.

I don't think I'll grind the recoil pad as the fit is close enough for me. I'll shoot some clays with it and if it doesn't snag me I'll leave it as is.

That's a bummer, but if it works, then it works.

If you want to, you can rebuild the screw hole with some arts and crafts techniques.
