I was hoping someone could direct me towards something to replace the sights on my 18'' 870 police barrel. It's has remington's rifle sights on it. I was thinking something along the lines of a williams fire sight. Does anybody know if anything is available to replace these sights?

As an alternative, does anybody know where one could get a replacement rear sight for the factory setup? The elevation screw in the rear sight is stripped. I contacted Western Gun parts and can get the part there but I was told there is a $30 min purchase to ship any order. Before I buy a bunch of small parts( that I probably won't use) to make up the difference I figured I'd ask.

There should be a few options given how common those sights are.
If you don't want to google search it, contact Cassey at Tactical Ordinace for some good advice.

I find image searches to be the easiest when you don't really know what you are looking for...

Contact one of the Remington Authorized Repair centres for the screw. It's possible they'll just send you one. Mind you, there is likely more aftermarket stuff around for 870's than any other shotgun. So if you want something else it won't be hard to find. William's will ship directly to you if you want a Fire-sight. They make a ghost ring sight too.

Thank you for the link. I had contacted Remington a while ago but never got a response. I just plain missed the Canadian service info.

Trijicon and XS big dot sights come to mind for replacements that use the current bases. I've been wondering if one could use the front sight/base with a rear receiver ghost sight, haven't bothered to ask/check around yet.

I ended up finding a replacement for the stripped screw on the factory base. If it was going to end up costing me a bit of cash I would have gone with the williams ghost rings. Being as I've already gone over budget on this gun I figured I'd stick with the factory sights and save a few bucks. It's intended as a gift so I've gotta draw the line somewhere lol.

That was fast.... :)

I like the factory sights on those guns, specially if the front bead is exposed brass.

I don't know if the newer ones have changed but I have a few rem front sights with the paint removed on the bead and it really makes it easy to pick up.

Gun nutz can be a helpful bunch :)

I like the sights too. Before I started to refinish the gun I had it out and found the rifle sights to work well. I could shoot stuff close and fast as well as place slugs fairly accurately out to 100 yards. The girlfriends dad is looking for something to take out when he's horseback riding thats short and handy for bear defence but accurate enough to take a deer. This should work quite nicely. The armacoat is curing as we speak and the stock is on it's last few coats of tung oil.

Sounds nice, post some pics before you wrap it up.

Well work did it's best to get in the way but it is nice coming home to parts lol. I rubbed a few more coats of tung oil on the stock and she's all ready to go for fathers day.
Thanks again to the gunnutz for the help finding the screw I was missing. If this doesn't put me in the good books nothing will ;)
