Replacement stock for Mohawk 600

Looking for a synthetic stock for Rem. Mohawk 600.

Want to keep it light as possible, slim profile (not too far off from original), roughly same length of pull as original.


Searches turn up:

- High Tech Specialties
- Ramline (seems lower end)
- HS Precision
- Brown Precision (must use 700 trigger guard)
- MPI stocks

Was talking with a Smith who can get the HT Specialties but his shop is closed until mid. Feb. and was hoping o get the ball rolling before then.

Anyone seen these in Canada?

Another question,

Any ideas for replacing the front sight with a hi-viz version? There must be something available.

Have a .308 600 Mohawk thats' been wearing a Ramline stock for 2 years now....was a drop in fit and the only difference is that its' "rounded" instead of like the original squared wood forestock... and feels better in this configuration to me.

Replaced the plastic trigger guard/floorplate with a metal one from Numrich arms last year...about 110$ all in landed here after border fees..etc.

Thanks for the response. How is the forend stiffness of the Ramline? A couple smiths have steered me away from it but all others are much more expensive so...

The Ramline stocks aren't nearly as well finished or high tech as the fibreglass stocks, as they're plastic injection molded stocks. They are actually pretty good for stiffness, but they are hollow and sound "clunky". For the money, they are an all right stock, just hard to bed, and don't expect what you would from a $500 stock. - dan
 
If you want to keep it as light as possible the two that stand out are the Brown and the MPI, I have used both and unless you can get them as a prefinished drop in they both require alot of work to finish. :(
But in my opinion they are both excellent classically styled stocks that one will be happy to lug around, once all the work is done. The others are just too heavy for this little rifle.

I inherited my Dads' rifle 3 years ago and put the ramline on 2 years ago and I like it just fine. The rifle with good handloads would shoot just about any bullet weights to the inch and some loads under an inch.

I already had several .308 s' with 18.5 inch brls so 5 months ago got a new takeoff 26 inch SPS brl....the rifle will shoot 165 Hornadys and 175 gr SMKs to 0.60 inch consistantly. Barrel channel was hogged out to accommodate the fatter brl. and nothing further...no bedding etc. I own 6 Ramline stocks and the first one I got was for a Ruger .338 about 9 years ago...no complaints after 500 + rounds through it.
 
My hunting buddy, Bert, has had a Ramline on his 600 in 358 Winchester for least 20 years.

We filled the forend with HILTI structural foam, then inletted the barrel into the foam, and full-length bedded the whole thing. He shoots nothing but the 250 gr Speer spitzer, and the rifle never changes POI from one season to the next.

Filling the Ramline with foam and bedding it sounds interesting. Must add a bit of weight though.
