Replacing a frame

Just curious, if the frame of a pistol needs a replacement (serialized component), can we still get one from a Dealer and legally transferred?
Or a Dealer/Warranty depot can get the same serial # stamped/engraved with the defective frame returned to them for proper disposition.

i doubt but i will follow.

What ever came of the member on here that his revolver blew up and bent the frame? I believe he was going to try and get in contact with the manufacturer to see if it was a possibility for him to send in his NFG gun and have the serial assigned to a new production one?

I believe under the present liberal BS that a new frame constitutes a transfer of a handgun therefore is prohibited. I know Wolverine as the S&W warranty centre for Canada has been fighting this battle and if I recall correctly they have not been able to replace frames . Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

For what its worth...
I sent a Mini-14 back to Ruger for a new barrel.
When it was returned, all the parts I had sent were assembled on a new barrel/receiver unit - which had the same serial number as the rifle I sent in.
Obviously it was easier for them to replace the barrel/receiver than just the barrel.
Anyway, gun 12345 gets sent back to the manufacturer, gets repaired, and gun 12345 is returned.

This was after the most recent OIC? Not a pistol so not sure it's relevant anyway. No one has an answer on this yet, at least not through the previous related threads on CGN. I'd wager if it was done it would be something allowed mostly because nobody who would otherwise stop it is aware.

This is useful information, thanks. I assume the barrel was bad from the onset, flawed?

That is very good to know. There is no reason (good or bad) why the same shouldn't happen with a handgun.

Will depend on the manufacturer, currently know a guy with a fúcked up glock frame. Any option in Canada was a no can do on a replacement frame, glock usa said they wouldn’t send him a new frame as it can’t be registered under our new current state of affairs. Nor would they make him a new frame and re serialize it with his old number or use his old number plate if it was sent to them as a “warranty”.

The specific manufacturer isn't going to change the legality. I would expect that response from anyone aware of our situation. What Ruger did with a rifle (looonnggg before the latest OIC) doesn't have much bearing since they are literally in different classes and situations.

Has anyone called a warranty center and ask, or just speculate.

It would be nice if a manufacturer would replace a broken frame if the owner sent it in, eliminating there being two identical serialized frames floating around. Who’s to know, treat it like a warranty and the broken frame is destroyed in the process.

But that would be to straight forward lol, in the end they’re going to do what covers their end and I can’t blame them for that in today’s climate

Even if a company were to manufacture a replacement frame with the same S/N, I believe the next hurdel would be importing the frame. Im not sure if the importation ban expired but there was one put in place during the panic.
