So..I'm going to replace a stock...

I am switching out a wood stock for a laminate stock, but have an issue.
The new barrel is a heavy barrel hunter barrel, (douglas 338 win mag)

The stock comes with option for a straight channel cut for the barrel, but this is a straight cut, no contour.

Would I be better to get a straight cut .5 inch, 1 inch, etc, or get the factory cut which is contoured?

I believe if I got the factory cut I could widen the channel and keep the contour, but with the straight cut, I think the channel would be too wide as you get further up the forearm,...?

thoughts?

the Magnum sporter which goes form a .7 - .9 taper to the end.

So Do you think I would be right in assuming at most, .7-.8 taper to the stock tip? and if so, do I get the .5 channel and open it, or the .75 channel and cross my fingers?
