Replacing a Tumbler Motor

Has anyone ever had to replace a tumbler motor?

My Lyman 1200 seems to have given up the ghost. Insted of tumbling its just emmiting that familiar low electrical motor hum.

So my friends... should I order a replacement motor or buy a new unit or has anyone a quick fix?
 
Did you google or pull it apart to see if the motor can be replaced? Have you looked to see if you can get replacement motors? Is it any cheaper? Did you test it to make sure it's the motor not the switch or if there is anything else it could be?
 
Tumbler

Check to see if the wieght at the bottom of the motor has fallen off (It is a T shaped piece of lead)
It it not attached the motor will just hum, no vibration.

a new Tumble is around $100.

I am so impressed by Lyman.

I called their customer service and explained my problem.

First, you can order new motors for your tumbler. And the good news is that it is the ENTIRE base.

Second, They diagnosed the problem over the phone. They asked me to check to see if had overtightened the rubber gaskets on the spindle....and looks like I did. Both the one attached to the bowl and the other to the top.

So it is back working now.

Gosh they were terrific and they really know their products and stand behind them.

Even if I had to replace the motor, the cost was $35 US. A lot cheaper than having to replace the whole thing!

Holy Crap. You must be really collapsing that rubberized tension nut down in the bowl to prevent it from shifting on the base...
 
i had something similar happen to my 3200, but the centre pole which is staked m came out first- rather than order a new base( 55 us) i just replaced the whole thing with a 2500, which had auto-flow- the 3200 did not

not so much in the cleaning as you don't have to open the bowl to drain media- just stick a container under the spout, pull the plug, and let the machine drain itself- keep an eye on the container as it comes out in a pile, and it'll overflow if you don't have adequate capacity- then once it's empty, open the bowl and pour your brass out- i still use a media separator, even though it says you don't have to
 
I paid $42 US for my 1200 a couple weeks ago, prices here are scary depending where you look.
I called Lyman about a solid cover, and they said no problem they would send me one for free. Lyman seems to know how to treat a customer.:)

Where did you get your tumbler? I am headed to the US soon and would love to pick up another one at that price!
 
Buy a Dillon!

My large Dillon tumbler was destroyed in a basement flood, I called Dillon to enquire about a replacement motor if it was available, explained what had happened to it, it was my fault, they said send it back and they replaced it, no charge.

I purchased it from MidSouth. I had my friend order my stuff and have it delivered to her place a week before I went to visit a her in Vermont. I also Picked up a few die sets at half of what it cost here, plus a few other little things.

It was exactly opposite in my case - after several years of light work the motor had fallen apart (seriously!), the price of replacing motor was going to be close to a new tumbler .... so I got a Lyman 2500.

Well I called a month ago to Dillion and told them my Dillion motor was not working anymore he said he would replace at a cost of $59.95 plus shipping.Told him I could by a new tumbler at that price.So got off the phone and called Bass pro Shop in USA and had Lyman 2500 at my door in week time and only cost me $132 and that was wth GST and PST and shipping added on.I can tumble 500 more rounds with the LYMANthan i could with my Dillion.
