Has anyone had experience replacing a Norc m305 bolt stop- release with an SEI extended release?
Will I have trouble with pin sizes?

Thanks in advance.

The pin is a 3/32x1" roll pin or spring pin depending on your local bolt supply shop.....

It will be a pain to drive out as the front end of the hole is half blind. This means you have to drive the pin from front to back. If you use a properly sized roll pin punch, it won't fit in the half blind hole. A standard pin punch will work tho, but you'll have to use a 1 size smaller than 3/32 punch to fit past the half blind hole. Whatever you do don't use a 1 size smaller roll pin punch as it will jam itself into the roll pin and then you'll have a bit of trouble...... I once had to remove an undersized roll pin punch and what was left of the pin for a friend who "had a spot of trouble" removing his bolt stop!

If you got real lucky you have one of the norks with a solid pin. That's a lot easier to drive out.

There are lots of stories on the American M-14 forum of fellas breaking off the tabs that hold the pin in place when trying to drive out the pins...... So be careful!

I find a smooth sided punch is about the only "worry free" way of re-installing the pin. From the back of the rifle to the front.

I find the "oversize" bolt stop upgrade has no real advantage for me as I usually use the op-rod handle to charge the rifle. The oversize mag release on the other hand does make mag changes easier, for me anyway!

Cheers!

When I replaced my stock bolt-catch with a Magwedge enhanced bolt-catch, I used an Allan key and slowly tapped the pin out from the front to the rear. When it was exposed I used a vice grip to wiggle it the rest of the way.

Replacing it is easy, just hold the tab down and line up the new pin. A couple taps to get it started and use a punch to get it flush.

Be aware that the enhanced bolt release will make the the bolt go forward if you put the gun down resting on its left side. Doesn't bother me most of the time when shooting from the bench but in the field it is a PITA.

X2, to release your bolt just pull back on the op rod. less wear on the bolt and bolt stop. it,s a solution to a non existent problem.

Thanks alot, your comments are much appreciated...reason for replacing, is bolt wont stay open on empty mag, its wiggleyer than hell.
The slops appears to be in the stop itself...barely holds the bolt open.

With the Norcs, you may have to file a bit off the backside of the catch where it contacts the reciever when engaged. Fixed a pile of new Norcs with this issue. Pretty simple fix.
