So I just purchased a Marlin 1895, and want to install a Williams Firesight for a front sight. I've never removed a front sight(dovetail), just how hard do you have to whack it to make it move????? I used a punch and gave it a few hits, but it never budged. I am scared to hit any harder since the original sight now looks like its getting damaged.

Any tips????

Ty to use something bigger than a punch & made out of brass ( as close to the size of the sight ) . A larger object will spread out the impact & make it easier to come out.

1911 rear sights ( dovetail also ) come out in one direction only. See if you can find out about yours & if the direction matters or not.

Well I called the local gunsmith(Snap Shot) , he said $45, so I hung up the phone figuring he's nuts. My buddy told me about a gunsmith who works at the St. Jacques shooting range, so I called him up and he says bring the rifle this Sunday and I will do it no problem. I ask how much?? He says, I don't know, maybe $5, plus $20 (since I am not a member)if you want to shoot at the range and sight it in.

So it looks like I am off to the range to get it installed and do some shooting at the same time. :dancingbanana:
