Replacing my accutrigger

Hey everyone, I've been playing around with my "new to me" savage 110 fcp hs in 338 and is been awhile since I've owned an accutrigger gun with my last model 10 in 308 and it immediately reminded me how much I hate the accutrigger. The thing is set at minimum and decocks itself or "locks up" so to speak on a normal operation of the bolt unless I'm really gentle. I know this is a known issue and I can rectify it by raising the pull weight but I think I'd rather just swap it out for a quality trigger.

The only aftermarket trigger I own is a timney in my 700 and I do like ilit however I hear there is other options for the savage. Any suggestions on a replacement trigger brand or model? Who has current stock? I'm in southern Ontario if that helps for a local dealer. Cheers.

Timney or Rifle basix. Timney will get you to a nice 1.5lb crisp trigger. Rifle basix #1 is the same as the timney. RB also has a finer trigger called Rifle Basix 2 which is adjustable to mere ounces. So I would look there. Call up Jerry at Mystic Precision...he will be sure to steer you right.
Elky...

Check to be sure the safety is fully in the fire position before you close the bolt to see if that makes a difference. I have my AccuTrigger on my Savage rimfire tuned down to pull at 12 oz., and it is perfectly reliable. My centerfire AccuTrigger is the Target model, and I have it adjusted down to 6 oz.. The only time I have an issue with it is when I find it in a midway position between fire and safety. Then it will lock up, but it really isn't the AccuTrigger that is causing the problem. When the AccuTrigger locks up the center blade will be frozen.

Maybe it's just my bad luck but I've owned 2 guns with accutrigger and they both had problems. I feel my factory rem triggers are far superior. The first one was a very inconsistent pull weight. This one feels like sloppy junk. So much side to side slop along with the locking up and having to be gentle.

Yes Ron, I've checked the safety and it fully in the fire position.

This is how I tuned up my rimfire AccuTrigger. I think some of the same "tricks" should work with the centerfire version. As I understand it, Savage designed the AccuTrigger originally for their centerfires, and after they bought the Lakefield (Ontario Canada) plant, they fitted the AccuTrigger design to the rimfires. Not the same, but the same principle. Basically the "tuning" is just stoning the critical surfaces to keep sharp edges, eliminating side to side slop with washers and tighter fitting pivot pins, and reducing the spring effect of both the AccuTrigger main spring, and the blade spring. I have not tried the mods on my centerfire Savage as it has the Target Action and it goes down to 6 oz, as is.

Sharp Shooter Supply in the US make triggers for the Savage, but I have no experience with them. Not sure of the logistics of getting one into Canada. Could be tough...

I asked on Savage Shooters. One of the owners or owner he says to much hassle to deal with shipping to Canada. From what he said it is opposite what most say He says lots of problems with Canada Customs.

The older fellow at Western Gun Parts who used to deal with Savage Shooters, said something similar. Apparantly SSS used to supply them with Wheeler Savage Barrel Nut wrenches. They no longer will ship to Canada.

I had issues with my Accu Trigger, it just came down to reliability. I swapped it for a Rifle Basix SAV2, and have no complaints and no issues since making the change. My issue , was the accu trigger locking up at the worst time (in competition). It was a nice trigger, but it had that issue.

Accutrigger is the worst trigger I have ever used. I put a Rifle basix in my Savage and lived happily ever after.
