replacing my Millett LRS-1 with something comparable?

Hi all,

I am at a crossroads with my optics. I currently have a Millett LRS-1 and I think that it is a little fuzzy at 25x Magnification @300yards. Don't know if it is my eyesight itself, or it is a problem with the Millett, bought it used from a fellow CGNr over a year ago.

My goal is to start stretching out my rifle out to 800 yards, while keeping groups under 1 moa. I do nothing but shooting of paper, no hunting.

Like today, it was a sunny day at the range, and I could barely see the the holes that I am punching @300yards, makes me wonder how it is going to perform further out.

I thought that these LRS-1s were rated pretty good.

And I don't have anybody that I can ask to see what it is like to look through their glass.

Maybe I should start looking at what's available for around $750 or so, maybe $1000, that is really what I can do financially right now. Maybe something in the EE forums used. Maybe a crazy insane special at cabelas.

Regards

That's comparable to a Millett scope.
What you want is something BETTER then a Millett scope, good news is that's not hard to find. Millett are made in China, which is the bottom if the optic world.
If you absolutely need crazy high magnification with good glass that won't require a 2nd mortgage, Sightron (made in Japan) has some models that fit that price range.

LOLOLOL, Hahahahaha

I think that it's actually my eyesight (Middle age is a B$tch), so I am looking for something a little better. Didn't know that Millett was made in china.

Thank you very very much!!!!

Well for 800 yds you do not necessarily need 25x magnification, it helps but not necessary. If you take a good optic at 16-18x compare to you LRS at 25x you will quickly notice with the good optics you see much better and do not need the extra magnification.

A 18x or even a 16x might do good in your price range

Thank you for this, Judging from the responses, This LRS-1 sounds like it is hindering my optics instead of aiding it. My eyes are stinging a lot in the last few months while at the range, and it is because of me trying to hard to see what I am looking at. They feel better after each time I stop shooting.
