Replacing my RPR

Personally I would just stay with the RPR as it will do everything you want it to and when time presents itself for the precision end of things you have a rifle you are familure with and have done everything with, as well as you don't need to go buy another sport specific rifle....

This. End of thread. Save your money for diapers or treat the lady to a nice dinner before she rips end to end.
 
I have a T3 CTR in .308 that I hunt with. It's a tag heavy for hunting but completely manageable. I'm glad I have the heavier barrel because I also use it to hit steel out to 600m. The barrel does warm up so I wouldl not recommend the lightweight barrel for any target work. I have a regular T3 in .223 that I target shoot with occasionally and I notice that even its barrel warms up after a few shots and groups open up.

I want something that is practical for both purposes and I don't think the rpr is a practical hunting rifle (plus I would look like a fool if I missed lol).

I'll make sure to take your advise about the wife though.

If you are only worried about profiling with a "black rifle" while hunting because of the criticism I would find new hunting buddies.


The RPR is an all purpose firearm and would suit your needs.
 
One of the points to consider also for target shooting/competition is whether the rifle has a detachable box magazine or not. It may or may not be important to you, as well as the cost of the magazine. CTR mags are close to $200 each when I was shopping for them.
 
Mag prices are bad, but if its a hunting rifle, you only really need to have 1 spare. I have been lucky, I have not even bought a spare mag for my A-bolt ever.

Sometimes I forget this is the internet and jokes may not come through. Not too worried about what I would look like in the bush with the RPR. I just don't think it's a practical hunting rifle. It is heavy and I like to keep my precision rifles in excellent condition. I accept that a hunting rifle may get dinged/dented/scratched while hunting even when being g careful with it but that's not something I want to expose my precision rifles to.

As far as box mags go that is a must for me. I hate internal mags. I think all tikka have a box mag.

I've narrowed it down to a tikka now I have to decide wood/synthetic and stainless vs blued. I think I am leaning toward the synthetic stock (t3 lite) but have not decided on barrel.

If you have the cash I would recommend getting a laminate stock for hunting. You will find that the plastic can be noisy if sticks rub on it.
