Replacing SKS barrel with 303 LE barrel

Cheap, yes, not very knowledgeable either. Not dissing you

You can likely find a decent sporter take off barrel at a gunshow in the $50 range. By the way, you can use any 30 calibre take off barrel. Not enough difference to cause any issues.

Then it will cost around $150 to have your old barrel removed, unless it's pressed and pinned, cut back the chamber and make up a thread tenon, have it reamed to proper dimensions and installed.properly, add the sight etc.

Cheaper to purchase another rifle.

If you read my OP, the barrel is PINNED. It's easy to pull it of.And it's not any different then switching 303 LE to 7.62x39.

I have never removed the barrel from an SKS that was pinned, only threaded. I would assume that it would be pressed and pinned, not just a slip fit. MIght not be all that easy to remove.
The .303 barrel will have to be shortened at the breech, machined to fit the SKS receiver, headspaced, pressed and pinned.
If you have to pay a 'smith to do this, it isn't going to be cheap. If you can do the work yourself, then it might be an interesting project.

I'm a pattern maker by trade(making patterns for foundry to do sand castings), but I had built a house, split a tractor to replace a gear ring, replaced a clutch on Aveo5 etc. I have a Southbend lathe, so it should be possible.

should be possible.

but then you reasoning that if all semi auto rifles go restricted or prohibited you will still not be able to take your straight pull SKS out in the woods shooting as it will still be classified as a SKS rifle.

Not without a reamer. Cutting chambers without one is also possible but you really need to know your stuff to get it right.

I've done very slight taper/no shoulder pistol cartridge chambers just to see if I could but it was definitely meticulous and polishing was necessary.

As it's a press fit/pinned tenon you will also need a good hydraulic press with some sort rig to hold things true to the axis of the bore or you will have to thread the receiver as well as the new thread tenon.

But now I'm not sure about that. The barrel would be 22'' long , not 20'', the stock would be Monte Carlo with no front ferule and no rear post sight. The rifle would not look like an SKS.

Probably wouldn't matter to the SFSS.
A while back laddie converted a detachable magazine SKS to bolt action. Figured if he could get the thing classified as manually operated, he would be able to peddle 30 round magazines for this bolt action rifle which just coincidentally would fit an SKS.
RCMP weren't having it. Thing was still an SKS, so the magazines would be SKS magazines.
Point is, it was still an SKS even though converted to bolt action.

I have heard that the front end of a .303 chamber will function as a 7.62x39 chamber. I've never tried it when using a .303 barrel for a 7.62x39 conversion, because I have a reamer.

wont matter what you do to / with it. its an SKS frame/ receiver. it will allways be an sks

I'm glad I posted it here before Bubbaing a good SKS. The other think which bothered me was the necessary weight of the bolt, bolt carrier, spring and receiver cover comparing to a simple lock bolt.
