What do you guys thing about replacing the springs in a Norinco 1911 Police model (government length) with Wolff springs? Is it worth it? What are the benefits?

What weight of spring is standard for a government length 1911? Is there any reason to go above or below that if I am just shooting standard loads?

Would you replace them all, or just a few?

Thanks!

I have two Nork Gov'ts. One with Wolf, one with orignal. The original is slightly light. perfect for my target loads. A Wolf 1 pound heavier is nice for full power.

Can't say I see much a of a differnece.

In a USGI .45acp, recoil spring weight is 16lbs, mainspring is 27.7lbs, magazine catch spring (compessed) is 8.5lbs, and the firing pin spring "rate is 3lbs/inch".

Is there any reason to go above or below that if I am just shooting standard loads?

That is hotly debated.

I'd put a few thousand rounds through your Norc, then just replace the stock ones when you would normally (about 5,000 rounds in a full size) and replace them all (not just the recoil spring). Wolffe springs are really good to deal with, everything is properly done so no nasty surprises at the border. Make sure you order a couple of sets (they sell complete sets of factory rate springs) so you've got a set handy.

Makes sense. No reason to change them right now if there's nothing wrong with them. Wasn't sure at what intervals they should be changed. I just wasn't sure if maybe the recoil spring was possibly too light, causing unnecessary stress when the slide slams into the frame during firing.

Thanks for the input. I'll buy a few Wolf sets to have as backup.
