Ok, I'll admit everything first.
I'm totally new to the 1911, I've shot about 600 rounds through mine and just played a bit with it (replaced slide release, put an ambi safety and changed grips)

What I'd like to change now is the mainspring housing. What I'm worried about is ruining the ARMco trigger job.
Will changing the MSH ruin the trigger job (that I enjoy so much)?

If you move the mainspring over to the new housing and assuming the traveling piston isn't rubbing on the new housing then it won't affect a thing.

He is right.

Before you assamble the new housing it is a good idea to smoothen the spring cavity. For this you can use a piece of rolled sand paper. Make sure you clean it well after. Put some grease(not oil) on the wall of this cavity and on mainspring and mainspring cup. Also put a bit of grease on top of the cup where the hammer strut rests. Use gun grease of course. Enjoy your gun!

Nice point about the grease. There's a fair amount of pressure on the follower but not much travel. A smear of grease would be much better than oil....

.... gotta go work on my own 1911 now.... :D
