Report and need a little advice

So I took my 2 new toys out for their first trial today.

1. Ruger 22/45 MKIII with 4 1/2" slab side barrel. Nice little gun. I've got 5 mags for it, and it jammed a few times or wouldn't grab the shell at all on the first 3 or 4 times going through each mag. After that, it seemed to get better. Just breaking in I guess. Thanks to all the guys who gave me a report on it before I bought it. I'm very happy with it. I plinked away with it for a couple of hours this afternoon and only spent $10 feeding it.

My other little gem is giving me an issue. Ruger Redhawk 44 mag with 5 1/2 inch barrel. It's got the stock factory rosewood grips on it, and it's a little small in my hand (as is the 22, but I can live with that). This is resulting in the gun sliding back and down in my hand when fired and is causing a blister between my thumb and first finger. Other than that, I love the gun. I just can't get my hand wrapped around it comfortably. I'm sure it's not a strength vs. big honkin gun issue. I'm an industrial heavy equipment mechanic, and my mitts are quite a bit stronger than the average Joe due to the line of work. Of course Milarm here in Edmonton as well as P&D didn't have the 86000 Hogue grip in stock for it, so I put one on order.

My question is........ when I finally get it, will this Hogue grip be physically larger than the stock factory ones? Aaaaaaaand.........
Are there other grips out there that I could try that are known to be larger and more suited to my not gigantic, but, a bit larger than average paws?

It's been my experience with the Hogue grips that the soft rubber will allow you a better grip and limit the amount of slippage.

With those paws of yours, :D:D you will need to cut down a pair of softwood tree's and strap em to the sides :dancingbanana:

I used to prefer Uncle Mike's Grips. Not sure if they are still in production, as they are not listed on there web site.

Oh yah, Look out Alberta, yah have an ex "Ontari Ari OH" RedNeck :rockOn::rockOn: on the loose out there.

"...can't get my hand wrapped around it..." Grips, grasshopper, grips. Be thankful it's too small. That's easier to fix. Go to your local gun shop and try a few makes of grips on for size. You may need custom grips.
 
Oh come-on Cigar man. I'm just a civalized as you :) :rockOn: LOL. And my hands aren't THAT big. I might just make a pair myself if the Hogue product still isn't big enough. BTW guys, Cigar man is the one who got me back into guns after about a 15 year absence. My wife is ready to kill :shotgun: him :) LOL!!!!! She's not anti-gun....she just know's I lie about the prices :D:D:D
 
I had the exact same issue with my Redhawk .44mag. I purchased a set of Pachmayer grips and really like them. No more blisters and the gun is much easier to hold onto. Much more fun to shoot.

It's right on the first joint in my thumb that's down in the web. You know, that damned spot that you rarely ever use??? :D Now if this was somewhere else on my nearly canvas hands, I'd be worried :D

Shooting gloves an option? Sometimes I put 500 or 600 rounds through at the range and the .45 bucks a bit so I wear 'em often.
