Report on the BUG-A-SALt Gun

My New Bug a Salt rocks!

Preliminary report:

Cold as the proverbial up here today, about -17 with a vicious wind.

I took a piece of Styrofoam about 3" thick, taped a length of 24" wide aluminum foil to it and shot three patterns, one each at 1', 2' and 4'.

At one foot 1.5 inches = 4 cm

At two feet 3 " = 7.5 "

At four feet 6 " = 15 "

The distances are probably within 1 to 3 inches as I was outside holding the tape measure's end against the foil with left hand and the end of the barrel as well, firing with right hand, no rest. I measured each pattern conservatively ignoring flyers, reading either inches or centimeters to the closest mark and then recording the closest other from the tape measure. In every case each grain of salt left a good mark. At one foot, if the foil had been in a frame and without the backing, I think the charge would have perforated the foil easily.

I will still take foil home and try to get images up.

There is no doubt that my first gun is only a look-a-like of the new one. I can dream of handing the old one to a neophyte and having a competition with shooting wasps on the fly, poor man's skeet. In honesty, we must be sober, no wager and I will tell him of what happened afterwards.

As for the BUG A SALT patterns that I described above, I have the three images on my 10" pad ready for upload to this computer.

H4831 contacted me in a PM and said he too has a problem uploading images directly to posts. While his $$ payment to CGN is probably still within the 12 months period, mine lapsed and I could not get the powers that be to reissue the first subscription notice.

If any of you can cast some light on H4831's problems and my own, please chime in or send us a PM.

Thanks

I am home and now have the old gun to compare to the new. The only perceivable difference visually is that the red stubby barrel at the end on the newer one is larger.
Now if I can post my images as I was told in the OT forum, I should have the images up here within a day.

:dancingbanana:

The images of the new gun and three patterns but...

As I said here earlier, I took images of the older and newer gun and patterns at 1 foot, 2 feet and 4 feet on my Samsung 10 inch tablet and they are great and have been transferred to this desktop, BUT, try as I might, I can't get them up using the picture frame in the second row above, 3rd image from the left.

As soon as I send this post this, I'll go down below and see if I can get them up.

I'm nothing else if not stubborn. H:S: TG the Vixen will never read that.

I don't think it'll have much effect on this big fella.

Thanks for posting this! I went on the Bug-A-Salt official website, and they have the Bug-A-Salt version 2 out. They show some demo's comparing the original to # 2, and # 2 has way more power, blasted a hole in tinfoil at one foot. Comes in camo too. I just ordered one. Most exciting purchase I've made in a while.

You will not be disappointed!

I hope to have the patterns up within the week, issues with PB, Dropbox etc.

My fear is that I did such a good job on the wasp nests at the cottage last summer, I'll have no challenges other than house flies, deer flies and mosquitoes this coming summer. Oh. I forgot the blackies, well we shall see.

Another thing...is that I don't think the gun is Kosher

:adult: How do I know, I put some kosher salt in it and as the grains are larger than free run ordinary table salt, it stopped working.

I took out the Kosher salt. In truth, I had used all of our Kosher salt and tried sea salt which is even smaller grained then true Kosher.

This is not like a true shot gun that will handle various pellet sizes for sure.

So, after watching the fast paced video on their web site on how to disassemble the gun to replace chipped plastic gears etc., I would not dare do such a strip down and would only let a master like our louthepou (he who likes L-Es) do it. After watching the first part of this video, I tried to take our the short barrel to see if it was circumcised and not getting it off could not proof or disprove my first line above.

N.B. I mean no disrespect to my Jewish friends on here, just using a bit of levity.

My cheepo Daisy spring powered BB pistol will muzzle load salt and is deadly to flying insects. It also shoots QTip heads.
