Probably not the right place for this but while testing tweaks and sighting in my scope on the M305 I noticed that someone had gutted a deer and left the guts where I parked two days earlier. It was on crown land about the last week of August in Ontario.

I don't recall the bow rules for hunting but it's to early for hunting deer with a rifle unless it's a native. I'm concerned that it's a poacher but I also don't want to lose my spot where I shoot and test. Do I contact the MNRF about it and hope they don't post no shooting or no hunting signs at my spot or mind my own business unless I have proof?

I only saw tire tracks and when I returned a few days later the scavengers had cleaned up most of the mess, but you could smell the rot.

could have been a road killed deer ....hard to say what happened .a little late now to make a report ,but keep it in the back of your mind ,you just never know ,,Dutch

Bow Hunting is legal for dear in almost all WMU'S right now.

Unless you can prove it was takin with a rifle, your just wasting your and the fish and wildlife officers time.

You found a gut pile and suspect poaching? It's nice your concerned but with out any proof what's so ever about about the deer's or what ever it was demise, Unless you have proof it's just a gut pile that may or may have been taken legally. I'd just shut up and shoot

The OP said it was the last week of August. I don't know when the seasons are out there, but i think the OP was suspecting it was taken out of season.

Too late to report anything. Next time phone it in right away. Our animals are more precious than your shooting spot, although i see your spot being unaffected by this anyways.

He also says he doesn't recall the rules for bow hunting, look them up. I'm across the country but bow zones open up mid August. Also there are plenty of aboriginal hunters out there. I agree that our wildlife is a precious resource...... But I found a gut pile and suspect a poacher? There are tons of possibilities and who knows maybe it was but over a month ago all the evidence is long gone.

It looked like I was there only a few hours after it was gutted. I was back two days later and 90% of the mess was already gone. I took pics and was going to report it but the more I thought about it the more I realized I had no proof. I found out bow season was still a few weeks off but it might have been a native. About a month later a guy showed up with his quad in tow just as I was packing up. After asking a bunch of questions, some of which I answered, he tells me he's a trapper that's been running the area for years and he's been up on days I wasn't that month and didn't see anything. He also noted it might have been a moose. (Guts not big enough but it could have been from a calf.) I got the feeling he might have been involved or known something but I let it go.

Regardless I'll keep my eyes open in the future and deal with it if it comes up again.

could have been a bow kill tracked down.

Id rather see a gut pile than just a missing head or a fully dead deer wasted.

if i just see a gut pile i think they gutted it and loaded it.

with a bow unfortunately they can run on bad shots, its unfortunate they didn't notify the owners of the private land but at the same time if it was a quick gut out and throw in the truck i seen no harm if it was in bow season.

oic out of bow season.. then possible poaching.

do you have any cougars around that area? around here often you will find gut piles on cougar kills but no liver/heart
