About 1982 i had one in my scope , 40 yards away where the Dog River Road intersects the TransCanada pipeline . It jumped the snowbank in front of my truck , jumped the opposite snowbank and then sat in the treeline .
About 1985 a fellow from work invited me over after shift to see the monster buck he had hanging in the garage . He got to talking about home tanning kits and asked if i'd ever used one . I assumed he was thinking about tanning the deer hide until he opened the deep freeze . He had nailed a cougar . Two deer had ran across in front of him in thick bush and he assumed the third animal of almost the same color was another deer so he fired . I told him it was way against the law and he should get rid of it . He was killed in a car accident not long after that so i don't know what he actually did with the carcass .
Two years ago a buddy and his wife were returning from a camping trip coming down HWY. 527 , Spruce River Road . A cougar ran across in front of them and as he slammed the brakes on his wife started firing pictures . She got three pics , but not good ones so i take thier word for it .
Three weeks ago my son and a co-worker were walking a poleline in the Silver Falls area . A cougar ran in front of them and then sat on a rocky ledge about 30 yards away for about a half minute .
