Repro Ross Stock for M1910 - finally made one

I finally cut my first repro Ross stock. Its been a long road to get this far. All I can say is that the final inletting is a pain in the @#$, and took hours. Here are some pics:

I also found out that no Ross rifes meet the same specs, at least none of the 4 that I had to work with. They were all different within a couple thousanths, but that could be the difference between a tight fit and a sloppy fit. And boy what a differance between buttplates. Its not perfect to my standards, but close. That said, I spent about 30+ hours on this stock and handguard, but I'm sure the next one will be a bit quicker.

As for forend extentions, thats a piece of cake, this one took me about 4 hours soup to nuts:

The wood I used to extend this one was from a buggered up Gew88 butt.

Now I can relax for the weekend :D
 
Great looking job, that is some excellent woodworking skill! I would love to get a stock like that and a repro barrel into my ross.:rolleyes:

Relax? You'll be busy answering emails from guys wanting their Ross put back to rights. You'll be drawing inquiries from around the world.

Now, just need someone else on the board to start making nosecaps and we're all set.

That is VERY nicely done. Congrats. Nice save on the Mk II as well.

The Ross factory rises again...in Alberta.
 
Thanks for all you kind words guys, I'm sure there will be some work coming my way :)

For me this is just a hobby, so it won't be high volume, but just something to do when I get bored.

There was no damage at all to the pattern stock. I was gentle to it :)

Every rifle seems different. If I mix and match rifles and stocks, they all seem to be a bit different in the inletting. For example, I have a stock that no other receiver will fit into. But if I stick a the small receiver into another stock, it still works, its just that the wood isn't tight against the metal. I'm sure most guys wouldn't take much notice to it, and if they got a tight stock (repro that is), some sandpaper can fix that. Its just time consuming thats all.
 
OH, MY, GAWD! You ARE BRILLIANT.
I wonder if you are the same person who made a new forend and handguard for my N.Z. carbine that bubba sportyized.
Lost contact with that person. Maybe not, as he also did clearing rods and other bits.
