Hi there

I'm very new to antique firearms and am trying to understand what there is for reproduction antique firearms and whether they fall under the 1898 rule?

Can anyone point me toward any reputable manufacturers of reproduction antique firearms or retailers of them?

Longarms with a touch hole qualify as antique.
Everything else is non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited, depending on the characteristics of the firearm.
Are you thinking in terms of production guns being made by manufacturers, as opposed to custom or semi-custom guns made in limited quantities? Cartridge or muzzleloading?
To get an idea of what is being made, go to Dixie Gun Works. Pretty good survey of the regular offerings.
Marstar carries the Pedersoli line.

Reproductions are not classed as antiques. Modern flintlock long guns are considered as antique status. An original 1858 Remington revolver has antique status. A modern made one is a restricted.
A modern made Lyman flintlock rifle is considered antique, but the same rifle as a cap lock has the same status as a modern hunting rifle.

Thank you, if the reproductions fall in line with regular gun laws that is dissapointing. I was hoping to get a nice BP pistol without the ludicrous restrictions that a modern pistol has on it.

Most reproduction firearms, handguns or rifles are made in Italy - the (3) biggest are Uberti, Pedersoli and Pietta. There are a few rifle manufacturers in the USA that are making reproduction Sharps etc.
