Goodday Gents,

I'm considering acquiring an Aimpoint 3X Mag.

http://www.aimpoint.com/o.o.i.s?id=67&prev_id=67&product_id=117

I would like to use it with my EoTech 512.

A few questions.

1. Zero retention/shift. Has anyone with experience with this optic noted a zero shift or change when swapping it on/off the rail?

2. Mount. How well does the suggested "Twist Mount" co-witness with the EOTech? Is there a better mount?

3. Rail positioning. I am using a standard length upper receiver rail, no extensions. Do I have space for the AA EOTech 512 plus the 3X on the rail without overhanging the EOTech off the front of the rail? (I note the need for a 45-60mm eye-relief.)

4. Accuracy. What sort of accuracy (with a standard AR type rifle) would be expected, or is the reticle on the EOTech too large to expect much?

5. Source. Who stocks them up here? Roughly what is the price-range?

Any insights or experiences would be appreciated. At this point, I'm strongly considering purchasing one, but would like to know more before investing in one.

1. Zero retention/shift. Has anyone with experience with this optic noted a zero shift or change when swapping it on/off the rail?

There is no change of zero because the magnifier does nothing more than magnify the image. The zero is still based on the Eotech's mount rather than the mounting of the magnifier. Think of them as two separate units.

2. Mount. How well does the suggested "Twist Mount" co-witness with the EOTech? Is there a better mount?

The Aimpoint twist mount will allow cowitness with a regularly mounted EOTech, however, it will place it a little bit lower than the line of sight, so it is not ideal. If you use a Larue EOTech mount in conjunction with the Aimpoint 3x and Eotech combo, you will have perfect cowitness... not to mention better cheek weld.

3. Rail positioning. I am using a standard length upper receiver rail, no extensions. Do I have space for the AA EOTech 512 plus the 3X on the rail without overhanging the EOTech off the front of the rail? (I note the need for a 45-60mm eye-relief.)

I will check on this later tonight, but if you are not running a folding BUIS, and you have a full length stock or at least run your collapsable at a longer length, you should be fine. Note that I only have a 551 model, so I can't be 100% sure on this.

4. Accuracy. What sort of accuracy (with a standard AR type rifle) would be expected, or is the reticle on the EOTech too large to expect much?

The Eotech reticle is large, but the dot is still 1/4 MOA. Under the magnifier, it will appear to be about 1 MOA. If the brightness is dialed in right, accuracy is pretty much whatever you can normally do. Unfortunately you won't have all the indicator cues you normally would have with the Elcan, so will be more difficult to judge distance and do hold overs.

5. Source. Who stocks them up here? Roughly what is the price-range?

I have a magnifier and twist mount combo that I am selling. Just PM me for info as I don't want to turn this into a sale ad.
