Good day all,
I'm reloading some 303 Brit with the subject Bullet and powder. I've got some load data from an old set of Lee dies, but I'm not sure what a good starting load is. The data I have lists a "Do not exceed value", but I'm not sure what a good start value is. Any advice is appreciated.

Also, I'd be grateful for any good 303 Brit reloading recipes.
 
H4831 (the powder) is a poor choice for the 303 British, as it has too slow of a burning rate.
Just looking at cartridge cases indicates roughly, what powder would be good for them. Magnum type cartridges, or even a 270 Winchester, have a rather large case capacity for powder, in relation to the bore diameter. All these cartridge types are efficient with a slow powder like H4831.
A 303 British, by comparison, has a larger bore diameter, in relation to the capacity for powder, and would thus be better with medium burning rate powders, like 4320, 4895, varget, etc.

303 British 174gr bullet 4831 powder I list 42.5-46.2 gr powder for 2000-2200 fps
The load i used was 4350 powder 42-46 gr for 2190-2400 fps180 gr bullet
Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly, what shot good in my rifle may not in yours.
Get yourself some good reloading books or search online lots of good info.
 
BL-c(2) is good for 303 as well. I load 40 grains with 170gr hard cast gas checked bullet for about 2300ish fps.
 
H4831 , is a poor choice for the 303
I've used IMR4350 at 45.5 gr in my longbranch sporter
With the round nose hornady bullet, gave around 2300
Fps, but the best load I've used is 42 gr of IMR4320
With same bullet, duplicates factory velocities Nd is
Very accurate given the rifles bore cond

4831 is gd in cartridges like 270,30-06, and larger
Magnums, with heavier bullets

A 303 British case full to the top with H4831 will be a safe load, but certainly not near factory velocity.
