Hey gents.

I feel like a "special person". I took my 10/22 out of its original stock and put her in a new one. During the few times the barrelled action went in and out of the new stock (some minor fitting) the pin that holds in the mag release and bolt release escaped into the wild. I have searched for a week, but have come up with nothing. What I am hoping is that most of you's out there are like me. With a bucket full of misc. gun parts. If someone could hook this greaseball up with a new pin and save me the hassle of trying to get one mailed from the United States of Freedom it would be worth some whiskey or beer... perhaps both.

Help a brother out.

*Gasp!*
The sacrificial drill bit! maybe.... but I would rather have the proper pin. Can be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my rifles. That will remain a last resort option.

Ottawa Valley.

-Edit- thirsty are ya? Me too.....

The shipping will kill ya for 1 pin (best order $100 worth of parts), Brownells.

Yeah, much better to spend $100.00 + shipping than a couple bucks for a pin and a padded envelope for about $1.69...................

If you're in "The Valley", you can try GUNCO.

Very easy to deal with and, reputable shop. Should satisfy your "purism" regarding not using a drill bit or, other easily accessible substitute. GUNCO is a gun shop so, any pin you acquire from them would be a "real" gun part.

Most gas stations have a plastic tray of various sized roll pin that would work too. You can flare/peen it so it won't fall out.

Local gun shop is closed for a while.

Shot the folks who deal with ruger parts in Canada an email. They aren't doing business till 3 Jan, but they have the part I need.

Thanks, fellas, for putting me on the proper trail.

Stay frosty this winter.

The same pin in my 10/22 is very loose as well. I wouldn't blame yourself too much, my pin is so loose that sometimes when I turn the housing on it's side, it falls out by itself. When I'll be ordering some spare parts (probably from Brownells), I'm definitely going to buy that extra pin. I have a feeling I'll be needing it sooner or later.

I add a dab of grease to one end of that pin, which is always loose I find, to help hold it in when I'm taking things apart.

If your pins are loose just replace them with ones made from slightly larger drill bits. I found that the number bits have the best variety of sizes to get a tight fit.

The same thing happened to me. Not wanting to wait forever for an original pin, I just asked the mechanic at work to cut me one (or two) out of a 1/8" welding rod. I believe the length was 7/8".
