Hello,

After I watched the Ontario provincial match in Guelph, I heard a bit about how to join the IPSC - I would need a Black Badge training course it seems.

What do I need to have in order to attend one of these Black Badge courses?

1. the RPAL license for pistols? (I'm pretty sure I need this one)
2. a gun club membership?
3. an ATT?
4. My own pistol and ammunition?

While some of you may feel that some things I list here may be a given, or that a question is stupid, I am new to pistols in general, and I've only recently acquired my RPAL license. The club(s) I'm interested in joining don't have their club training sessions until mid-fall at the earliest, so I don't think I can even purchase a pistol yet, until I have a club and an ATT.

If I can do a BB during the summer without having a range club membership yet, I would definitely try it as an opportunity to do shooting.

Going through the forums and IPSC info, I've only turned up info on what you need to compete in IPSC, not what I need to have for the BB course.
Here's the main source for what I do know:

Off topic, but....

To participate in ipsc here in Can. y'gotta get thru the ipsc mandated BB course.
What does ipsc Can. require of say American ipsc'ers who do not hold a BB?
Are they given a pass based soley on having an ipsc membership in their own country or...???
'Seems the whole idea of having a BB course would be undermined if non BB shooters could drive over the border and shoot the matches..

There's no reason why you couldn't use a borrowed firearm, but the four points you noted are essentially correct. What else?

Appropriate strong-side belt holster (covered triggerguard required);

Spare magazines or speedloaders - the more the better;

Eye and ear protection;

Lots of ammunition (minimum power factor 125);

Oh, and an open mind too.

Dont forget that a CSSA membership is required as well (if I am not mistaken) to take the BB course.

just my 2-cents

You have way to many rules in Ontario.

Things are much easier out west. Buy a range membership, buy your gun, get your att (all this has happened in one day more than once). Find a club and you'll find an instructor.

Even a new shooter can in two weeks, go from nothing to Black Badge certified, providing the course isn't full.

:p

Why would you say that?? the CSSA/Club association is a very "ontario thing".. not all clubs require you to be a CSSA member to join.. there is no requirement to be a CSSA member

As far as I can recall, when I took my BB Course 3-years ago, I was required to present my CSSA membership when I signed up for the BB course. Why? I never asked why for a reason that I am already a CSSA member and was able to provide the membership card when I signed for the course.

Again, I might be wrong. Maybe one of the BB instructors from Ontario on here can confirm why they asked for it.

BTW, I am from Ontario :)

CSSA membership required perhaps to be a member at a/ that club or to be eligible to shoot at that club as part of club requirements... but no CSSA requirement for Black Badge or membership to IPSC in Ontario or elsewhere.... not in the rules and we know if it ain't in there it ain't required...
