Resale value of custom 1911 pistols

They come up from time to time. I have been looking for a year or so. Likely a Wilson would cost at least $2000-2500 for a $3000+ gun. I have seen one but didn't want the calibre .38 Super. I wouldn't say a Kimber is in the same class as a Wilson or Nighthawk.

I wouldn't touch one. Too many amatuer gunsmith's farting around with their guns that are far better shooters out of the box than their owners wil ever be.

the manufacturers you listed mass produce them, at best their pistols can be called premium brands. i personally would never buy one but as usual you can expect to sell them slightly higher than retail on EE :)

Kimber, yes. NHC and WC.....no

If you own them all and have done comparisons, I'd love to see your report...I do own them all and can tell you, putting a kimber in the same league as NHC or Wilson is like ranking a Cavalier with a Corvette....

I also can't imagine why someone would pre order a gun in advance and wait (in some cases over 24 months) to sell it.

I will never sell my NHC....

nice graphic, made me lol (just watched star wars again over the weekend) :)

did not know every single nhc and wc was complete custom - having seen a few stocked by sponsors here from time to time - then again i guess our definition of custom may not be in sync :)

ps: i've seen 2 SVIs (and these are one offs every time one is made) on EE in the past so i guess people do sell off guns, even if they had to wait year or two to get them

On EE, it's always worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. IMO, the target market for 3k+$ pistols is very small, and those who can afford it will probably pay the extra hundreds to buy a new custom one just like they want it. IMO, there arent many individuals who can see and appreciate the attention to detail and qualities of such pistols; It's like comparing a Colt Python to a Ruger GP100, some people will tell you that a 357 is a 357 while some others will tell you that a Python is a Python :)

To a serious gun collector a great 1911 is worth it's cost. I want a top of the line sample. I just bought a mid level (used)Dlask and am looking forward to getting it. If it is what I think it will be I will order his best. He is Canadian and that means so much to me. I wanted a Wilson CQB for some time but I think a top of the line Dlask is up there as well. Canada is such a small market we just don't make that much noise.

Having said this, I think that the 1911 is an old design. There are better/newer designs out there. I love the 1911 and could look at one all day, gun ####! The 1911 works so well for me it fits my hand well and the kick is a small push. I guess there is a reason that so many people make 1911's.

Get Dlask to build you a ramped bull barrel model....that's pretty much as advanced as the design gets.

the problem is that its custom so it was made to your specs. chances of someone who wants the exact same specs as you is slim. so why pay premium $ for a gun that was built to someone elses demands. Some guns do hold a better % due to the long wait with getting them new from the builder

Well I want .45ACP I want government length, I want adjustable sights and all the custom stuff he does that he knows about. Built the best you can. Surprise me. Frankly I don't care about anyone else, what they want. I know what I want. Build me the best you can, thank you.
