Rescued & Restored M1 Garands

Nick did a Breda garand for me last year and it turned out as nice as the previously posted pics. He also does awesome work on 45s. If I knew how to post pics of mine I would. If anybody can help me post let me know. His contact info is 519 723-4009. Real good guy to deal with.

You guys want to see another Garand he did in his special green park?

I picked up a .308 Garand a few years ago. Nice rifle with a Wilson Arms .308 barrel sitting in a new Boyds stock but it still looked very weird, new black barrel with almost bare receiver and other parts...Now it looks like a bad ass hunk of green goodness.

For those who question the costs, every rifle is different based on condition.

For those purists who insist on keeping things original, I agree, BUT, if a rifle is a piece of crap, is missing parts, barrels, in a black plastic hunting stock, what would you do? I think the choice is clear.

Simply slapping on a new Boyds stock onto a pitted, tired old gun is much more insulting if you ask me.

I looked at your rifle on Monday when I was there. You need a new gas tube. I will send one down to Nick if you want. Otherwise nice rifle, lots of potential.

His work keeps getting better with every restoration.

Really nice rifles, would love something like that, and not the same guilt shooting it as if it was trully unissued.

A few years ago I aquired this:

The poor girl was devastated. The PO had taken enough of the guts out to make it a straight pull bolt action. The barrel was/is a fence post.
I got a new Boyd's stock, and a .308 barrel for it. There were some pits on the receiver and the finish sucked. On the upside, she's a '41, with the appropriate lock bar sights and an uncut op rod that is in spec.
I decided to send it to Nick for a repark. He mentioned he could fill in the pits with a tig and take care of it. Well it turned out to be a lot worse than initially thought. It had to be annealed to work it, then rehardened back to spec after the work was done.
I had no idea he was a Master Wizard. There are very few artists like this left in the world!
Here is two of a series of videos he sent me, the first one showing how bad it was, and the final product. I am astounded.
At the first video, my heart sank, a pitted up POS. Well no longer.
I own a brand new 70 year old Rifle.

Wow. They look great. Almost reconsidering selling my H&R if Vulcan can get them to look that good.

Really? Well you're in luck! I still have the "original" stock, you're welcome to it. I can also send ou the V notch sight Bubba soldered on, plus I can provide a list of the parts to take off to make it a bolt action like it came to me.
You can make yours original just like this too!

As far as price, I think it would be poor to quote for him, his hourly rates are a bargain for the work and expertise he has demonstrated. Every rifle is going to be different and the scope of work you may want done would be too.
There was a ton of work to mine as you can see from the videos, and it wasn't cheap, but that being said, I'm confident I could do better than break even on my costs, rifle, stock and work if I put it on EE, with the Garand market the way it is.

Nice job removing the pitting from the metal but am I the only one who didn't mind the look of the pitting as I thought it was rather minor.

When I first looked at the thread, I thought it would be restoring an M1 garand that had been "run over by a tank" so to speak as we are all aware of bubba's never ending list of talents in basement gun smithing.

Still, in the end, if you thought the work was worth the expense and the effort, than that is all that matters.
 
That is beautiful work. I would love to learn how to do something of that quality.

Frankly, this'll keep the guns running longer and better, so I'm not protesting. Yes, some of the guns could have run as is, but from the sounds of it, many have been messed with/reworked/otherwise altered and are already in need of work. He's returning them to the condition they were in new - not putting a see through mount and plastic stock on them :p
