Say I could get a really good price on bunch of handguns of the exact same type. Maybe 9 or so. Would I need some kind of dealer licence to resell them or to be able to buy that many?

I think the CFC might think it's weird if I bought 9 of the exact same gun and said "I'm using it for target practice".

Tell them you are an accuracy fanatic and want to test fire all of them so you can determine which is the most accurate. When you find the best, no need to keep the rest........

They may question it but why does it matter how many you want to buy as long as they are acquired legally. Now if you want to start turning over 9 of the same model every month..........

Don't tell them more than you need to. Target shooting. Thats it. If you happen to be a collector then you can say for collection purpose also. That's what i would do because I have quite a number for that purpose. It screws them up a little when I say both target shooting and collecting. Causes a flag to appear in the application.

Before you do this you should PM me on the make and model of gun and condition and what you would want for it/them. :D

Must be a heck of a deal, what with the average price of used in the $600-900.00 range.

Tell the CFC you're only buying one to shoot....the rest are for spare parts.

If you have collector status tell them you are buying a collection. If you don't have collector status get from your CFO, there is a form for it.

Also make sure you pass on any deals on the other 8 to us! :D

LOL...ya I can just see that. :D

There is no limit technically, as far as I know, so you could say that it's just your favorite handgun and you want them all for target practice. Sounds wonky but I don't think they could say anything to you about it

You can buy any quantity you can afford and re-sell what you want--I am sure there are many on this board (my-self included) that buy and sell far more than that in a year and are not dealers.

I didn't have to fill out any form.

Has anyone ever tried something like this before?
I thought collector status was supposed to be hard to get. I don't want to do anything illegal or raise any flags.

When you call the CFO in your province ask about the collector status application. I did it back in 2002. It is about 5 pages of general questions, what are you going to collect, do you keep historical information on firearms, questions about storage etc...

I think you could buy 8 guns without collector status so it is not absolutley nessessary. For example there are guys that buy 10 guns at a time at auctions.

Buying a group of handguns

If anyone wants to know just tell them this, "I wanted to buy a handgun and had to buy all of them to get it". That one works with wives, and you can explain that you should be able to sell the rest off to pay for the one or ones you want to keep.

But don't give the CFC any information unless they ask. You don't have to give a reason except for "collection" or "target practice".

So remember the less said the better.

I wouldn't go the collector route , as I understand it you can't shoot your collector guns and I don't believe you can be both. So get them as " for target practice" . Deal with the questions when they come, the best answer is "The present owner wants to get rid of a bunch of firearms and to get the good deal on them, I have to buy all of them."

You can have guns listed for collection purpose and still shoot them. Collection does not disqualify you from shooting them. For some of my guns I have listed both target shooting and collection for the purpose. It causes a flag to be raised in the transfer because the computer system is programmed to point it out. All that happens is the person doing the transfer application acknowledges the flag and moves on.

I did an personal information request on myself and got back 920 pages. All the details on the transfers I had done are included. Shows the purpose listed for each gun with some guns indicating both collection and target shooting. Some are only target shooting and some only for collection.

I would just stick to "target shooting" unless you actually want to start "collecting". I did without any hassel (other than running out of room in my safe) but some provinces are a little more demanding.

Tell them one on each hip, one in each ankle holster, one in each shoulder holster, one in the back of your jeans, and a couple for spares.:D :p

Tell them you just invented a new shooting sport......
