Here is the Question,
Does a member of the Canadian military have to prove 6 months residency in a particular Province in order to hunt there as a resident.
The Scenerio
A friend of mine has been in the Military for 25+years & has been stationed all over the world. He has been living in Edmonton for the past 2 months & was in NB for 4 months before that & Afganistan prior to that .
If he wants to hunt Moose with me in Ontario, does he need to buy a Non-residents licence or is he A RESIDENT of Canada and can buy residents license in ANY province?

Thanks

Armed Forces pers who are stationed in Ontario are deemed to be residents.

Your friend must buy a non-resident license. :(

Other provinces/territories are different.

i have a cabin in north ont and i live in BC.my elctorial riding is still ontario.and i have to buy a non res to hunt.good thing my eara is not one of the ones that is guide only for non res.

SK an AB both deem .mil and RCMP who are posted to those provinces, to be residents of the province as soon as they arrive. Just have to show your ID and state where you are posted to and you're good. Regular non-resident Canadian status applies to anyone not actually posted to that province.

Can't tell you for sure about Ontario, just that you will have to go through the regs for each province carefully.

Some require physical residency, some allow you to be deemed a resident after a shorter period of time when posted in, others go by electoral district.

Provincial jurisdiction, soup sandwich bunch of rules.

I've got a bud in Yellowknife that still comes down to AB to hunt as a resident (Electoral District), but when I am posted to BC, I have to be resident there for 30 days to hunt as Resident, but a full year, to fish as Resident. SK was effective the day I got there, Quebec required a full year of residency.

Like I said, Soup sandwich.

Graybeard is correct. If your buddy is not POSTED to Ontario at this point, he is not deemed to be a resident.

Ontario does waive the six months residency requirement for a member posted here, or at least they DID waive it while I was still serving. It would not surprise me to find that McGUILTY and his band of scumbuckets changed that.........
