Hey everyone, Ive got a win 94 in .25-35 coming to its new owner (moi) soon, id like to get some ammo ready for it, ive sourced a box of factory ammo, but it will be far cheaper for me to resize 30-30 brass... my question is, what do i need? so far all my reloading equpment is all hornady brand.

Ive never sized down brass this much... not sure what equipment is needed

Never done that one personally, but looking at Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions, by John J Donnelly, pub Stoeger Books:

Make from .30-30 Winchester or .32 Win Special. F/L size in .25-35 WCF dies. Trim to length. Chamfer. Watch neck thickness - I.D. ream if necessary.

That doesn't look too bad. I can send you a scan of the whole page if you would like.

I resized a lot of 30-30 brass for my 25-35 Winny. Just use a good lube and the rest was easy. Still have a few reloads left but the gun went to a new home. 117 grain was its favorite . With the 30-30 brass already having a sloped shoulder does make it much easier. new brass and factory ammo is expensive.

Winchester brass will almost always crease in the shoulder area but Rem and Fed don't near as bad. I find the creases blow out mostly, don't shoot them enough to find out if this shortens case life, but I assume it would.

Simko I have resized 30-30 cases down to 25-35 and 22 Sav HP. As already mentioned some cases crease in the shoulder area. I have found that running the 30-30 case into a 32-40 size die first then into the 25-35 size die pretty much eliminates the creasing problem. After re-sizing in the 25-35 die that case can then be sized in the 22 HP size die with very few cases ever damaged. If you are going to do a lot of cases its worth finding a set of 32-40 dies. Hope that helps

I've done a bunch and didn't have too many problems that I can recall.
I would suggest a Lee case length gauge and cutter to cut them down.
When sizing down, the brass tends to grow longer.
I cut the 30-30 brass to length before sizing down and used the neck
bevel tool to clean up the mouth.
Seems to make the die perform smoother.
Best to use your 30-30 brass as short as possible so there is no bunching
up in the die.
Pay attention to what your hand is feeling on the press arm.
Sometimes with the pressures or resistance felt there you can stop a problem
before it becomes a pain.

I haven't done 30 30 to 25 35 but quite a lot of 38 55 to 30 30. Just run the brass into the full length sizer, well lubricated of course. I've had some creased cases, but that's been cured by neck expanding to remove any irregularities in the necks. Only those that were bent or dented were creased on resizing.

I did a bunch of 30-30 to .219 zipper by running them through a 25-35 die as an intermediate step. Biggest help to prevent buckled shoulders was to anneal the 30-30 cases first. It helped by keeping ruined cases to a minimum, and case brand did affect rejects. I just can't remember which brand was the worst.
