Resizing 3030-.375win

If they fit then just fire form.

That's a LONG stretch though. I've heard of fire forming .30-30 to make "short" 38-55 cases for single shot rifles. But the resulting wall thickness works for that sort of use. You'll find that the walls are pretty thin by comparison to proper .375Win cases.

In any event I'd also suggest that you anneal the upper ends of the cases down to and including the shoulder to hopefully avoid too many split casings.

You could try 356 brass but you would have to squeeze the base down 50 thousandths then trim to length. Of course 356 is probably harder to find.

356 is a rimless case and 375 is rimmed. I found 375 brass pretty quickly on the EE so I would put an add there first. I have fired 30-30 out of my 375 to make brass for it but it ends up being pretty thin but it works. If using 30-30 brass reload to 38-55 specs because of the thin walls.

mate I don't see why you couldn't get it out to 375.

I have 375win brass, I lucked out on 200 years ago. but I always thought 3030 brass would be fine aslong as pressures arnt high.

you see I run my 375 at 38-55 speed.. no stress on anything an for what the rifle is used for. works fine.

it would be interesting to just fire one?? to fireform? or would it need to be pulled, lower charged and fired?

I planned on 30-30 brass in future....

being straight walled....

You boys age well down under.

356 and 307 are rimmed versions of 358 and 308 with slightly lower pressures. I have both a 307 and a 308.

I had great luck at fire forming .38-55 brass to my rifle's chamber size using 8gns of some old untrustworthy Unique I have. I filled the cases to within 1/8 inch of the mouth with oat bran as a filler over the paltry little dusting of a charge then firmly tamped in about 1/4 inch long pea of wadded paper towel to compress the load and cap it from falling out. This compressed the load pack such that the paper wad ended up being slightly lower than the case mouth. But this was new and rather loose fitting "proper" .38-55 brass to start with. I have not tried forming .30-30 yet.

But the web and You Tube is full of oodles of accounts of fire forming .30-30 to form slightly short .38-55 cases or slightly thin walled .375Win cases. I ran a quick google search just to comfirm that my "8gns" memory was correct and the first page back from google was chock full of stories of fire forming .38-55 cases from .30-30. There is some loss due to splitting and some needs to be re-fired when it doesn't fully form out the first time around but there's lots that get good results the very first time. And their recipes are given with the reports of success.

I think you got mixed up by some of the replies. He's wanting to fire form .30-30 brass to .375Win.

Otherwise there's actually no forming involved. They are the same external dimensions when sized fully and mostly use the same dies. My Lee set has ".375Win" on the sizing/decapping die and the seating/crimping die. The throat sizing/flaring die is the only one that is stamped ".38-55" in recognition of the thinner case wall and different neck expanding sizer.

Or if you're responding to my post about fire forming my .38-55 cases I was fire forming them to my .38-55 rifle before loading the first time. The casings as delivered were a VERY loose fit in my .38-55 chamber and seating bullets in the smallish new brass was resulting in the walls bulging like the cases were wearing corsets :d

that is what the big secret is down here.... im actually 226 in international terms, you would never of guessed!

I started hunting with the Boomerang many moons ago, upgraded to a Lithgow 22 and then they sent off the blokes on the ships with them 303 things an afterwards I landed a bunch of them on the northern shore.
