resizing without the deprimer

Ok, so I fugged up and broke my Lee deprimer for my 300 win mag when I got a shell stuck in it.
I've ordered a new one from Lee but I suspect its being used as a butt-plug at CBSA . . .
My question is:
Can I pop the spent primer out of the casing with something else and just size it with the remaining part of the die or will I be missing a critical part of the process?

Yes. You could insert another expander/deprimer from another lee die (ie a 270) which is smaller to do this. The bullet seating process would be a bit tight, but do-able with boat tail bullets on the un-expanded brass.

In some instances, you may find run out is caused by the expander. In such cases I size with out the expander installed. Then with an expander, I run the brass back up just enough to size the neck only (reverse order if you will). I have found positive results on this practice with these dies and improved run out as a result.

I would have my doubts that you could reach much of the primer with a .270 decapping pin installed in a .300WM die. Not sure it would be long enough. But I have never tried it so, it might.
My question to the OP... If you are using the Lee trimmer for your cases, you could use that and a light hammer to knock out the primers maybe. Otherwise, you would need a long pin punch small enough to reach the bottom, then tap it out while in the shellholder.
 
I've been using a Lee .308 die with a snapped off decapping pin for months now with no ill effects. It was never really used anyway so I didn't see it as even needing replacing.

My brass processing order is:
-decap (Lee universal decapping die)
-tumble
-resize
-trim

If the neck expander rod is bent that is a whole other story. Happened to me with an RCBS die and it made all the necks crooked. Luckily I realized it after only doing 5-6 cases and putting them through my Lee full length sizer die fixed them anyway.

Agreed (and with LUTNIT).

I actually have a section of brass rod with a 1/2" bit of nail sticking out of one end. Comes in handy at times. Little tap with a hammer and it's done.
 
thanks everyone, ran a few through tonite, most worked great! had maybe 3 that made vertical dents on the angled section below the neck . . . are these still usable?
 
They will fire form out when shot. Try chambering the empty case to make sure. May be too much lube causing the dents.

PS, tried a 260 win FL lee expander in a 338win mag FL lee die. worked fine, but is seated deeper into the lock nut.
