so i purchased my .357 vaquero based on the belief these things were work horses, so far its had 24 shots fired and has 2 paperweight causing issues to date....


this problem was after firing a few .38spl, then putting in some .357, fired one and then the cylinder became free spinning, with the gate closed the cylinder will spin freely, after taking it apart i noticed the latch spring was a little bent, would this be the cause of the free spin? if the spring wasn't pushing up enough on the latch?

sorry im new to revolvers and not familiar with their common issues

any help appreciated

New model or the original Vaquero?

I've been competing in SASS since '03 and have 5 of the original Vaqueros (larger frame, all in .45lc) and have never had a single issue. Maybe you should check out some of the cowboy action shooting forums and search for similar issues. Their reputations are well deserved, but any manufacturer can produce a lemon now and then. Good luck.
 
Remember the old rugers that you would have to half #### to load,well the new models have the loading gate open to move

the cyl . Well if the latch or gate spring were bent the the cyl would spin as if the gate were open wouldn't it?

Just a thought.

ya makes sense to me, closer look showed the cylinder latch not even makin contact with the bottom of the cylinder, spring must be too weak now.... sucks that so many weaker little things can make this tank of metal inoperable....
 
Ruger is too busy to help you trying to fool us into thinking that they are too busy to ship us Canadians any of their new handguns.

that was the culprit, a teeny tiny 5$ spring lol
