Resolved, thanks

I have never seen G96 dry up and become gummy... been using it and recommending it for over 50 years... never a bad experience with it.

I've seen situation where the operator used G96 but didn't bother to clean up the rifle for a few years and all sorts of crud was mixed into it that made it appear gummy and in a few cases so much dust and dirt that it appeared to be dried into an almost solid state.

That was the operator's fault, not the lubricant's

Many folks think that applying the lube is all that's necessary. It isn't, the lube does it's job well for a long time, as long as it doesn't get loaded down with contaminants or over heated, which isn't likely to happen under normal conditions.

To be perfectly honest, I've never used G96 myself. My main experience that I'm basing my opinion on was a Remington 700 trigger that was gooed up badly inside.
The gun was owned by a fellow who would soak everything with G96.
Perhaps I added 1 and 1 and came up with 4.
Maybe I should try it....
Similar to Ballistol?
