I'm new to lee dies and new to 300 win mag reloading. I'm only on my 2nd-3rd full length resizing of brass and already I'm concerned. 1- I'm getting metal shavings after each casing so far. 2- The handle is VERY stiff to press down on my Rock Chucker. 3 - The resizing line almost comes down to the belt on the case.

I used the provided lee lube to lube the sides and inside neck only.

Any thoughts.

Much appreciated.

Yup, the resizing rings hits the belt and even wants to go past.

I only added an extra 1/4 turn to the die after it hits the top of the lifter.

It seems to be brand specific. Winchester has given me least trouble. Even I back out the die, some RP, FC, Hornady brass still result in metal shavings and sometimes hitting the belt. Any thoughts?

It looks like you are pushing the brass and not reducing the case body diameter and why you get the brass rings.

The base of the case is thicker and has harder brass and does not like being squeezed to a smaller diameter.

The base of your die where it is rounded might have a sharp edge and why it is pushing the brass.

Chambers and dies vary in size and you could have a fat chamber and a skinny die. As a example I have a Lee .223 die that will size the case body smaller than my RCBS .223 small base die.

You might need to size the case in several steps, meaning when you feel excessive resistance back off and start again.

I buy once-fired Lake City 7.62 brass and much of it is fired in fat chambered machine guns. And if I try to size it in one operation it will push the brass and try to yank my shoulder out of joint.

Bottom line keep the bottom half of the case well lubed and do not force the case into the die and size in several steps. You need to measure the fired base diameter and again after sizing and find out how much the base area is being reduced. You might need a Belted Magnum Collet Resizing Die at the link below.

Below the collet slides over the case and then the die compresses the base of the case.
