Respect private property! Trespassing, mischief, and vandalism.

Any chance he got stuck and was using the chain to free the truck? I mean if he was there for such a long time, he must have seen the camera? Maybe it was just an innocent act? Just saying, if he was truly doing something wrong, why not take the camera or maybe it's just hidden well.
Glad no real damage was done.

I'm not sure how he could have been stuck on flat ground I park on often.

Or how a length of chain locked to a tree would help.

Honestly I can't think of any reason to mess with sombody else's chain on a marked private property.

Put up his picture in the nearest gas station. Someone who knows him will see if and tell him. Make a police report as well.

We did this, word travels fast, We had a name and address within a week, Plus other camps that had problems with same guy too.

I like this. Put it up as a warning to other land owners in the area.

One of my concerns is that other land owners have had or might have run ins with this guy, or others like him.

Who knows, the police might not do anything, but if they were to get a report from someone else that is more serious, and gets a description on the vehicle, or the person, maybe the pattern emerges.

I just wish people would respect each others property, signs, and possessions.

I wish that claymores were legal for civilian use and protection of property...

Interesting to find out why all this took place for sure, if possible, post the results.
Good luck

Exactly right. The police may have had several calls about this guy perhaps associated with other criminal activity in the area. The OP has a picture and a plate and passing along info to the police might help them.

I'd also be tempted to post the pictures on Twitter and Facebook.

I dunno. I wouldn't feel too bad about using up a hundred or so bucks worth of ink, staples, and paper, to post this a-holes picture up on telephone poles all over the area, with a warning that he was trying to break in. Truth.

Run his rep right out in public onna platter, and never feel bad about it. No class, a-hole deserves worse.

No guilt, and you may be, or know, the person that isn't bothered by his likes again!

I have had several trespass and vandalism incidents .... I had trail cam pictures .... even had a picture of the license plate ....

The police did nothing!

What did work for me is this:

I put up a sign in front of the entry gate .... with the pictures of the individual .... offering a $ amount reward for whoever could tell me who that person is.

Nobody ever called me ..... but since I put up that sign ... I haven't had any tresspass/vandalism incidents any more ....

Anybody thinking about forcing the gate now knows that there are trail cameras hidden .... and that I am serious about finding out who they are.

Problem solved!

hey 0faustus0, out of curiosity, what was the damage?

In my case, the worst damage I got was some tire marks which are not a big deal... I've done worse on my trails...

and the potential theft of my chain... but a 3/8 chain on a 18" diameter tree... even a dodge ram isn't gonna move, so not sure what they might have been thinking.

I put signs up all over my rural property and every year I see evidence of people using it.

Heck, one year someone took out my bottles of chain oil, gas can and 2 stroke fluids from my storage and lined them up for target practice on my front porch! Made an ugly oil stain and polluted the grass. arseholes.

Was gonna do the trailcam thing but they would just get stolen as well.

Well, that woman trespassed onto my land .... removed a couple of beaver traps that I had put up (probably just threw them into the pond) .... then she discovered one of my trail cameras and destroyed it (she stepped/jumped on it) .... and she tried to break open my tool shed ....

She was one of those anti-hunting environmentalists ....

In your case there wasn't any damage done .... so, yes .... different situation. However, you could fake an incident .... (take pictures of a friend who agrees to do this and who lives far far away) .... and put up a sign asking for infos on him.

All that counts is that whoever reads that sign ..... believes that trail cameras are hidden ..... and that you are serious about finding out who they are .... For most it seems that this is enough to make them think twice about committing trespassing/vandalism .....

Pretty strange you would peel off your blaze orange during a required rifle season on posted land. I'd for sure be calling the cops. This happen to be out hwy 132? My buddies hunt camp got hit for a bunch of building material.

Update, Report has been filed.

I made it clear in the report, that damage was superficial, and that the reason for the report was for case building should there be future incidents, or if others have partial matching descriptions.

I also have some interesting leads to follow should there be more to this down the road.

Thanks everyone for providing some input.

Did you check with Boone Plumbing & Heating? That's one of their shirts and I think they only have 3 locations.

Maybe crop the picture to include only the face and send it with a "this guy helped me with a flat tire and my wife took a picture" story.
