Respect private property! Trespassing, mischief, and vandalism.

Did you check with Boone Plumbing & Heating? That's one of their shirts and I think they only have 3 locations.

Maybe crop the picture to include only the face and send it with a "this guy helped me with a flat tire and my wife took a picture" story.

Oooohhhh that's sneaky. I like it. "I pulled this picture off my wife's dash cam and wanted to thank them personally..."

Update, Report has been filed.

I made it clear in the report, that damage was superficial, and that the reason for the report was for case building should there be future incidents, or if others have partial matching descriptions.

I also have some interesting leads to follow should there be more to this down the road.

Thanks everyone for providing some input.

Good! It's a start!

I would not bother with trying to scam the scammer. Send the picture to the Company, and ask if this represents their values!

If the guy is wearing company clothes, while trying to f**k you over, the Company deserves to know. If the guy that was trying to f**k you over IS the company, then EVERYBODY needs to know!

This is what I would do.. more than the police will do, if he works for the company I'm quite sure he will get fired. Merry Xmas.

come on guys, cancel culture is not my thing.

for all we know he thought it was public land, (as guys do put private signs up sometimes)

getting someone ####ed over, over a possible misunderstanding, with no real harm done, isn't cool either.

I have put forward a police report, and worded it as superficial damage. I am happy to leave it here provided no further issues.

Had actual theft occurred, or physical damage to my possessions, or trespassing further than my barrier, happened, I would pursue further.

But for now, my boundary is intact.

Man I don' t understand you at all.

All this bs about what should I do, then pussy out, "Ooo I don't want to get the guy in trouble!"

Harden up man.

Short of submitting a police report, which I did. Why should I go after someone personally?

The guy spent 5-10 minutes parked at the front of my property, and less than a minute messing around with my chain.

he didn't appear to cross the boundary, did not damage anything but dirt, and may not ever be back.

He might not have known that the property there was indeed private.

And I have his plate, possible employer, and photos.

Perhaps I have a cooler head, but don't mistake my demeanor.

My question about what should I do, netted me some factors to consider, such as:

- what if there are other incidents in the area?
- what if there are future incidents at my property?
- how many of these issues don't have faces/plates, but wish they did.
etc.

I was more or less happy that nothing was seriously damaged, or that they didn't cut my trees, damage my stands, or steal my stuff.

I had considered logging this with my computer, and keeping it for myself should more issues arise.

But asking the question brought other input in, and ultimately changed my decision.

Is it worth going to someone's employer over some tire marks in the dirt? would it escalate the possible damage to my property? vehicle parked there? etc?

I dont think so.

If I have future issues, depending on severity, I might follow up... To have words with someone I suspect.

but as it stands, I am not scorching the earth on someone that effectively drove on my curb, and looked at my chain.

Out of curiosity, did the police say how they (or if) they would follow up?

Mind that most cheaper trail cameras glow red when taking evening pics/videos and are almost impossible to position to hide the glow and still get a usable image, hence those cameras get stolen by POS in situations like this.
No-glow LED cameras are the cheapest ones but still glow a bit, an outright no-glow camera is what is needed here.

Others may disagree but what you have done is that exactly what I’d have done in same situation.

Document it properly and move on.

Too much stress in life already to fan the fire.

Honest people don't try and rip down a gate.

If he does work for them, he is suppose to be bonded, which means trusted. Him doing that doesnt show trust.

Same thoughts here exactly.

Engaging with someone who is in a lower life class than you, will only pull you down. There's no upside.

Just a note. You say you put signs and a chain across the trail leading to your property.

Are you 100% sure your chain and signs are actually on your property? Is there a chance that there's some boundary or public access you don't know about, but buddy does?

Sorry. Disagree entirely. The upside, is that the lower life forms start avoiding your area, and become better known to the Police!

If you are not going to respect your OWN property by protecting it and following up on someone's attempt to damage it, then you should pretty much just roll over and leave the gate unlocked!

Y'know, if you saw a guy trying to jimmy the door on your car in a parking lot, would you shrug and forget about it, just because he was too incompetent to get in? This is the same deal.

Follow up, and word soon gets around. Every A-hole that is left to walk away unbothered, is an A-hole that's not gonna change his habits!

Yes, 100%

It's like those Dave Chapelle skits, 'When Keepin it Real Goes Wrong'.

Imo, best to keep the situation procedural and informal. That's why our boys in blue make the big bucks. Let them handle it. And no sense risking a big incident over a little one possibly blowing up in a way you can't anticipate.

I have a buddy that has a small cabin on a lake where the land rights are all shared. He seldom goes there, maybe a week here and there throughout the year, but others on the same small road live there year round. He has one neighbor that puts a chain across the public road because he doesn't like it when people drive past his house. Every time my buddy goes to his property, he has to get out and remove the guy's chain. It's a real P-I-T-A, so I can understand if this guy thinks it is public land.

I wonder if posting a sign of where the public and your property converges would help? Like a small map showing your land highlighted with private land shown. Might be a bit of work and expense to do, but that would rule out if he was just "misunderstood". If he tears down the map, then you know for sure its no accident. I think he's up to no good and simply doesn't care about your land rights. I have posted signs all over my property and still have hunters walk up to me when calling in turkeys pointing their shotguns in my direction... no chance in hell they missed the signs, they are everywhere... they just don't give a crap.

I have zero respect for criminals... steal something, lose your hand, no sweat off my back. Sometimes people need to feel the sting, if they always get away with stuff, they'll just keep doing it and going further each time.
