Response to CFC enquiry

This is the response I received re; my enquiry about persons requiring a license to have reloading components.

This is in response to your enquiry to our 1 800 number about requirements for individuals who wish to buy components for ammunition for antique firearms that do not have to be registered.

As set out in the Firearms Act, individuals need a valid firearms licence to be able buy ammunition. For purposes of the Act, "ammunition" means "a cartridge containing a projectile designed to be discharged from a firearm and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, includes a caseless cartridge and a shot shell." This requirement applies even if the firearm for which the ammunition is intended is an antique.
Individuals do not need a licence under the Firearms Act for ammunition components, such as gun powder. However, there may be requirements under the Explosives Act, which is administered by the Explosives Regulatory Division of Natural Resources Canada. You Need a Licence *To be able to BUY*
It says nothing about possesing ammo does it

So if that's what the CFC is saying, What do the folks with Natural Resoursces say...or is this something that's already been answered and i have missed it?

There is no license required to purchase or possess reloading components. There are limits on how much powder you can possess without a magazine license, however.
