I'm getting into rimfire benchrest shooting. Presently using a Caldwell "The Rock" front rest and a rear bag but I'm not finding these adequate. I've been looking at the Pappas rests and wondering if any of you use it? Pros and cons? (price of this rest is not a concern) TIA.

Some chap near Calgary makes a great one for about $200. I think his name is Harv or Harold. Would love to track him down as I want one real bad for the same reason.

I have one

in wood that looks like a pappas that the saddle was broke and needs to be glued together in shipping

pm me and this weekend I can take a pic jeff

I have 5 rests now and can tell you the pappas is a work of art but buy new not used,

mine has a jewlling finish on the base (he did 2, one for his daughter and one for me)
(I is impotant)

nice stuff and he now makes some other rear bag configerations (his sister got ill and I got the last 3 and 2 are spoken for and the last one is for me)

it is the standard in the industry,

von arhens makes a nice rest (over a grand usa) but the pappas is more user friendly in my opinion,

there are 4 such one piece rests in the edmonton area, I brought in 3 of them james is very nice,

This reply is for those of us who don't need a work of art but want a good coaxial rest top.

If you have a Caldwell base (or other decent base) you can purchase a Shadetree Accuracy top for your Caldwell base that is coaxial. One joystick controls windage and elevation.

About $375.

Very well made and will fit on your base.

Just be sure you specify the size of your post. Butch Lambert can help you sort that out. I have one; it is excellent.

But it not a Pappas thing of beauty. Good for rifles up to 15 pounds.

I would agree as I have been trying to track this guy down for years. I saw one of his rests and fell in love but I never got his contact info.

Does anyone here have it?

well

a fellow named henry make a few nice ones but they were 200 about 15 years ago, and he does not make them anymore, maybe not the same guy they were a sinclair type 3 leg affair,

I've got the same set up as you, whats wrong about it?

For the money, nothing is wrong with it.
It is a good rest at a good price.

Many of us like to take it a step higher and shoot with a front rest that has precision windage and elevation adjustments.

I prefer a coaxial front top that allows one-handed precision w&e adjustments using a joystick with the left hand only.

I want a better quality rest for benchrest competition, Not saying the Caldwell isn't a good rest. Just like I've done for a rifle, I started off low end and have now worked up to an Anschutz 54 Match action, 26" stainless Lilja barrel, Harrell tuner, Weaver T-36 scope and a professional pillar bedding job. I started with just sand bags and have progressed through a couple of rests, rear bags and now want a high quality one piece rest.
