Restocking a vanguard 2

Prophet River and others carry the B&C stocks for the Vanguard. Not sure that's light enough for you though. I'm a wood furniture kind of guy, but my Vanguard Sub MOA came with the B&C, as did my Mark V Accumark, and I certainly like the job they do. Look good, feel good - but not so light (which I don't mind).

If you feel your action warrants the price tag, you could look at a McMillan, but they'll cost you. Nice stocks though.

I got a Boyd's Varmint thumbhole, definitely not light, but great fit and feel. Maybe they make a lightweight sporter that would fit your needs. Go to their website and enter your specifics and it will tell you what's available for your rifle. I also have a Prairie Hunter on my 96 Swede sporter. Very impressed, especially at the price point.

I've changed a few rifles over the years from hinged floor plate to detachable mag and admittedly they were not Vanguards.
The end result with one exception was that they did not feed as well and also after a bit of use the fit of the mag loosened up enough that it would rattle ever so slightly.
I now have two Vanguards and since they feed flawlessly I'm going to leave them as is.
You are probably going to think I'm crazy but for my method of hunting I am also very comfortable with blind magazines because usually once I load a rifle it stays loaded for the day.
This of course doesn't work for a truck or quad hunter..

when I called PTG to ask about their mag kit, they told me it weights 17oz....I'm happy with the floor plate, not the best, but I can live with it for the sake of adding that much weight....the weatherby kit looks like it'll weigh less though
