Hey,
Just thought I'd share some pics of my Cooey 64b I just completed refinishing the stock. This is my first stock restoration so I was hoping some of you guys out there might have some tips for any future stock restorations.

Here is a before pic and and an after one.

Also, I've heard that early Cooeys had a Walnut stock whereas the later ones had Birch, any clue as to what wood I've just dealt with?

Cheers.

Because Cooeys were built in Ontario, I'd think i somewhat unlikely that they'd have walnut stocks. Except maybe for some "hi-end" models.

The wood is a question mark, but it's a nice piece and the finish looks good. What did you use for the finish? Bill
I stripped it using a chemical stripper, did some fine sanding then followed up with some "Red Mahogany" Minwax stain. I let the stain sit for several days before using several coats of glossy Varathane.
Next time I will probably use a satin finish Varathane as I had to use some rubbing compound on the glossy finish once it was fully hardened.

Looks ok, if you want to try some deeper colors look for some alcohol based stains (Laurel Mountain Forge stains are awesome!!). Try steaming dents out to minimize sanding, try not to round any sharp edges. Most importantly keep at it, they'll get better as you practice.

Good Luck!!
