Afternoon gents,

I have inherited a Mk.III 303 british but it has seen bubba since the war and I would like to restore it to its original condition. I know it's gonna need some wood but I am not sure of where I could find some as I am new to restoration. Any insight is most welcome.

Barrel length : 25'' 5/16 from tip to where bullet sits
Length of gun : 44'' 3/8

I have posted up some pictures.

You'r going to need a complete stock set plus the installation hardware. Advertise in EE for a No1MK111 walnut or beech set. You're most likely looking a $300.00 - 350.00 for the items you need. Ron

Ebay has SMLE stock sets that are new. They sell for the $200 - $300 range, Then you need the hardware...

Do it right and you have a nice heirloom you will be proud of.

This is mine.

Peter.....Very nice No1 MK111....it pays to buy the better quality wood and you end up with a great restoration. Doubt if you could purchase this Enfield for $300.00.

You can find very good wood on eBay and by advertising under the WTB classied ads here on GUNNUTZ.

You need a complete stock set as the buut has been sehaped in the pistol grip area. Not all No1's have the brass medallion. You need a rear swivel assembly, rear sight ears, mid band/screw/swivel, front nose piece, sling. You should be able to salvage your butt plate/screws. The butt, forend, swivels are sporterized. You may want to start by buying the metal bits first and when your budget permits purchase the wood. Hope this helps, Ron

stock sets

Marstar is supposed to be getting a lot of Lee Enfield wood in some time soon. You might e-mail them and ask.

The metal parts you might pick up at a gun show, or a gunsmith who has been in business a long time.

The bore looks good. There doesn't appear to be any rust or pitting. Haven't gotten the chance to shoot it yet so not sure if it's strong.
It's a family member bring back from the war so it has some sentimental value, which is why I'd like to restore it.
I also have a sporter N.4 Mk I*.. that one will be next.

Are you able to do any of the fitting? Unisuued wood often requires some minor fitting. I do have a new set plus most if not all the hardware. Send me a PM for details, Ron

PS Is the No4 British or Canadian? Might be able to help with that one as well.

If your buying wood try to buy it separably, the last 2 stock sets ive bough had brand new enfield forwood and crusty indian top wood
there is a seller from the UK that has minty new top wood for sale and there are several sellers that have new forewoods

the hard things to find now on ebay are screw sets and proper rear sight protectors with the asymetrical sides but I think marstar has all that

I've looked on ebay and haven't found any enfield stock sets. And I would like to stay away from that indian wood.

@kernalvax Would you happen to have an email or a website for this UK seller?

Your Mk.III .303 BR 1940

Jonathan, I wish you well in your work in bringing this rifle back.

I was given a BSA 1913 .303Br which looks remarkably similar to yours 27 years younger. It had been bubbaed badly, yours is in much better condition. Mine had no barrel band, no rear sight ladder, just the base. No brass stock disk. Check for my thread here to which I made my last post only this morning - a real comedy of errors, a horror story.

Have fun.
