Restoring a M1 garand

If a M1 garand has been made DEWAT can I restore legally it back to shooting condition I have a PAL.I would think it just parts .

Generally no as they weld the barrel shut and cut the receiver. The barrel can be replaced but if the receiver is cut then you can't rebuild its structural integrity
 
Yes you can legally restore it to shooting condition, if you can replace all the parts that have been made non functional. As you said, its just a collection of parts.
 
If you are thinking of getting the Dewat M1 that leecass has for sale in the EE, you'll want to find out what parts have been welded up etc... Most likely you will be replacing the barrel, receiver, and parts of, or all of the bolt. Costing those out and the labor to have it all put together right + cost to purchase the dewat will probably be significantly more than just buying one that already works. A project like this would only make financial sense if you already owned the dewat. in my opinion.
