I was making a point that is doesn't matter where you live, how far away from another human, or services, including a licensed range.

I know I'd sure appreciate it on my hip when gutting at 11pm in Northern BC.
THIS I can relate to! Hauling and elk down a mountain next to the tuchodi way after dark is no fun when 'ol Bart is following you in the thick brush. When in close quarters and working with two hands, a rifle leaning on a tree isn't much help when you feel the hot breath on the nape of your neck.
I wish I was independently wealthy and universally attractive to Women. maybe , maybe if we all wish really really hard we will get what we want. Or maybe we should save our keystrokes for letters to MPs that just may have a chance of influencing policy.
I lost a good friend years back when he and a CO friend of his from the Fraser Valley were elk hunting by Radium. Grizzly hit them while gutting an elk. The CO was decapitated and they found my friend dead under some windfall with an unfired chambered round...and not a scratch on him...they figured he died from shock and exposure. Maybe if they had sidearms, the story would have ended differently. But hey our politicians know best!!

Long, not a semi auto...heavy, awkward to shoot/time consuming to get any real accuracy. It a LEVER ACTION...and they are only really effective with a BUTT STOCK.
added - my whole point was a lever action rifle is one designed to work with both hands and the gun pulled into your shoulder...anything else and its gonna go down hill.

When a bullet of robust construction, or when several of those bullets is fired at a range measured in feet rather than yards, into the brain. Of course one must know where the brain is; just shooting at the head won't do.
LOL...some people really do think you need belted magnums to kill a white tail...
Shoot one from a tree stand with a good bullet...range will probably be well under 20 yards...if you cannot kill it, give up shooting.
