where would i find a barrel that is 106mm long to make a walther ppk restricted? and how much are they? thanks.

Most likely you will need to find a gunsmith who can make on for you. I believ they can be made from most 9mm barrels. I have looked into this as I would love to get a restricted PPK some day. Good luck with it.

First, what caliber is that PPK? If it's .380, Dlask had those bbl in stock 2 weeks ago (worth to ask, use e-mail). If it's .22, I didn't see those at Dlask.

I'm interested in that too.

Its my understanding that the seller transfers it to a gunsmith, who installes the barrel and then reregisters the gun as restricted. Or the seller re-registers it as frame only.

But that's just gun club chatter, I don't know the real answer.

Can a PPK be sold to a person without 12(x) status if it doesnt have the barrel or does the longer barrel need to be installed first?

I've gone through this, including a court case. If the manufacture had a restricted barrel available for that model the Registrar will allow you to register it as frame only.

For example I was not able to register a Beretta model 1934 as frame only because a restricted length/calibre barrel was not produced for that model. I had to put on a custom barrel first before they would class it as restricted.

But I have a FN/Browning that is registered as restricted as frame only. The Registrar decided that because the manufacture did produce a restricted length barrel in 380 auto then it could be registered as restricted.

Now a lot of this is POLICY not LAW. Subject to change if difficulties arise.

Back in the day (before the US export laws), I picked up my 106mm 12 groove Walther PPK 380ACP barrel from Numrich for a wopping 36 dollars+shipping. Last winter they (Numrich Arms)blew out the rest of their stock at $24.95 a barrel. Dlask would charge about 250 I believe to rebarrel a PPK and reregister as restricted only.

I wonder, what did the barrels cost at Dlask??
Barrel only is about $125.
Fitting is another $50 or so, if it's the same caliber.
If it involves caliber change, let's say you have a .32 and want a .380, it requires some extra work, like open the diam. of the bolt (or slide, whatever), extractor, etc, blah blah..., maybe $350 or so, but don't quote me... (if it's .32 and you want a .22, I have no idea what it requires and even if it's possible).

   OMG, I sound like a sales agent for Dlask..
I won't even have discounts for this when I'll pick up my brand new 10/22 receiver:(

cz52, can't wait for you to post pics of the markings of your Romanian PPK:)
It's a long time since I've seen something like that...

This is what the Romanian M-74 "Carpati" looks like.

Thank you very much:)
These pics made me happy.
I hope I'll be back shortly in this thread with some info about PPK style romanian surplus handguns, in case anybody would care to read.

+1 for Barry at Bits of Pieces in Delta, he did a great job on my Walther. Reasonable price and a great guy to deal with.
