Restricted Luger P.08 quest

Happened in the U.K.. Police arrived for a home inspection while man was at work. INSISTED they had to check his storage NOW. Bullied the wife until she produced the keys to the safe. when he arrived home, they handcuffed him and marched him down the street to the patrol car in front of his neighbors. and of course they took his guns.
 
I think that is the incident I was recalling, scares the heck out of me to think they could pull that stunt here.

I have a copy of the forms they sent me to explain the inspection procedure so if it ever comes to it, I can atleast refer back to the legal writings.

Lets think happy thoughts now, eh ? :D
 
Well fellow CGNers, a dream and personal goal has been fulfilled as of tonight. As a project 1.5 years in the making has come to a successful end.

With amazing assistance from KIDVETT, I have managed to acquire a beautiful 1914 DWM Luger P.08. I have also acquired a WW1 reproduction holster as well as a belt to go along with her.

My great grandfather carried one of these into the First World War and, a century afterwards, I have the privilege of honoring him with the sidearm he would have carried.

To all who made it possible, THANK YOU!!!.

They are definitely fun!!

It's about the only way (besides Navy and Artillery Rigs) that us non 12.6 guys can get any tasty Luger action! ;)

That 1921 is very nice and an uncommon production date for the P08.

I may get an artillery luger in the future but I am in no rush for one presently.

Using pictures of the Luger when she had her original barrel fixed, you can see the workmanship put into the replacement barrel is very close with only the step behind the front sight base is different in appearance.

The tricky part came when breaking the holster in for the Luger as P08 holsters are generally made for the prohibited models. Using a guide I found online, a simple and cost effective method was to wrap the Luger in some plasic wrappings (I used the packing plastic from the shipment box), put the Luger into the holster, close it, and leave it over night (I left mine in for three days). The end result was a hoslter hard shell flap that closed with less effort and was still had a snug fit around the Luger.
 
The police came to my grandfather's house not too long ago and confiscated his luger :(

It was in perfect condition. i loved it and was hoping i would get it one day.
 
Since I am not selling this Luger I have no issues posting the price:

Luger P08: $1250 shipped to my door (includes new barrel and gun smithing as well as any other work performed)
Holster: $100 shipped to my door
Prussian belt with belt buckle: $74 shipped to my door

Grand total for the project: $1425 (rounded up to include cents missed).

Not bad considering prohibited examples start in the $1200 + range. If you add tax (if applicable) as well as gun smithing costs to bring the Luger into the restricted category you may go into the $1600 price range. Artillery lugers seem to sit in the $1700 range and up. I have seen one priced at $3500 and from what I examined of it first hand, she is a real beauty to be sure! Swiss Lugers, are just insanely priced around, and sometimes above, $2500.

Original holsters from WW1 that are dated and in decent condition start at $450 and up. I would dare not force my Luger into an original holster.

I have yet to see an intact WW1 German leather belt with belt buckle but I am sure they are out there as I have seen original uniform jackets floating around at gun shows. I would imagine original leather belts with intact and functional belt buckles have to sit around the $150-200 range ?

All of the pieces I picked up can be used for re-enactment with no fear of damaging a period item (minus the Luger).

All I can say is that putting away $20 here and $10 there really adds up over a year.
