Looking for some educated advice, if I have no intention to hunt or shoot anywhere other than an approved range, is there an advantage/disadvantage to purchasing the restricted version of the Tavor?

Restricted is cheaper as far as I know. Check IRunGuns.
If they are the same price then go non restricted since you won't notice the extra couple inches and it will be nice to keep it off the registry.

Let's see, treated like a free man, vs treated like a criminal that needs to be tagged around the ankle and have cops put their hand on their sidearm when they come to your door.

Let me see... UMMMM....

Got Nutnfancy's review goin in the background again. Gonna be the tavor I think. NR of course, definitely one of it's distinct advantages. (LOL! at our ridiculous laws). Yep, Tavor is next up on the "get list"

I think we are find out that "military style" non-restricteds, have a tendency to jump to prohibitted, without becoming restricted, first.

All the more reason to buy 'em up! This gun grab and reclassification is what finally got me off my ass and into my local shooting range. Specifically because of this reclassification; now I joined a pistol club, am switching to buying pistols and ar-type beauties (for now) and jabbing my inlaws and lazy buddies too. RCMP should have considered "For every action..." This is just the beginning of a new era of firearm freedom in Canada- and these "push-it-too-far %^$#@#'s, at the RCMP, are the ones that are making things finally happen.. IheartIrony

police can't stop murder, then can only arrest someone after. So they try to extend their abilities by advocating useless bans to make them feel better. The people in places to actually stop violence like mental health professionals and educators have the real power and cops can't deal with that.

Thanks for the comments, mostly looking for anyone that can shed some light on whether the restricted version is just a Tavor with a short barrel :)

Of course its just a Tavor with a shorter barrel what else would it possibly be?

Personally I'd NEVER buy a restricted bullpup when a non-restricted version is available and only a couple inches longer. Why put yourself in the gun-grabber database voluntarily, if you can avoid it? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

A short barrelled tavor is a tavor with a shorter barrel made in the United States that is a little cheaper and is restricted. Log barrelled tavors will be Israeli made and non restricted, which is a huge bonus for some come reclassification day.

Honestly, I have to ask, who gives a ####? All this talk about "The gov't takin' away our guns!" (not directed at you but it's a common theme in some other threads) is retarded in the extreme. Who's actually going to voluntarily disarm themselves? There was at max a 50% compliance rate with the LGR. The same holds true with licensing to this day. What would be the compliance rate of folks that actually handed in their guns if such a prohibition was decreed? 10%? 20%? Statistically insignificant amounts of people in the overall scheme of things. That's who. And how could such a decree ever be enforced en mass? It couldn't. Because it's impossible.

Sorry for the rant. I do feel better now though.

ETA: Get the non-restricted one OP.

That was the answer I was looking for, saw a restricted version on one of the sponsors sites and it was for a lot less $$ and since 90% of my firearms are restricted anyway and I have no desire to hunt anymore, I thought this might be the route to go.

Thanks for the info, I am still undecided....the short barrel does look cool, but I am now leaning towards the Israeli version. Decisions, decisions...LOL

is it really that hard of a decision? lol i don't care how much money i save. i would rather have a non restricted. I hope the 3.5 inch difference in barrel (2.5 inches if you get the american tavor) would be worth having to ask permission to go to a range and have it locked in a locked case during transport. and all the other crap that comes with restricteds.

You won't notice the barrel difference. You might notice the need for an ATT. You will definitely notice the lack of interest in resale. Never say never. Buy a nr and solve all your problems. Tavors feel short anyway.

Is resale in the future a factor? I'm curious what the resale difference, if any, is between the two?

The resale difference between the two is huge I imagine. There is a market for used non restricted tavors in Canada. Not so much for restricted tavors. I bet the only way you can move a used restricted tavor quickly is to offer it at a substantial discount compared to a non restricted one.
