Restricted shotgun for farm protection

We have a ranch with horses, chickens and a big garden. We have many of the expected predators (wolves, coyotes,coy wolves, foxes, cougars and bears). Many times we see these predators close to the barn and chicken coop and I'm not always around to deal with them.

I bought a Beneli Supernova 14" for my wife and daughters, because my 870 and Beretta semi are to big and heavy for them. Unfortunately the Benelli pump kicks too much for them. The Beretta semi is ok on recoil for them, but not the size of it.

If I were to plug a Benelli M4 14" semi 12 guage to 2+1, is it legal in Ontario to use this for livestock protection? I know it is a restricted firearm, we have our RPAL licenses and a lockable cabinet.
 
What about a 223 rifle if shotgun recoil is a concern? The ergonomics of the Tavor are quite something & a semi auto 223 would fit the bill well for dealing with most predators.

Restricted firearms are for range purposes only, In my opinion if you want a 12 gauge buy a utas 15 or kel tec ksg they are both non-restricted, compact, (pump not semi.... but 15rds of 12gauge makes up for it) and there is two magazines so you could throw less lethal in one side (bear bangers) and lethal in the other(slugs or 00 buck)
 
The lil 243 works fine around our land, and our 8 year old daughter is quite happy plinking with it burning reduced loads. 14" shotgun seldom leaves the house any more.
 
Sks??? Cheap to buy and feed, not a lot of recoil. Plus you can put an ati stock on it to help the ladies with length of pull.
 
M305 big enough for bears put a Casm mount and that new cheaper vortex 1x6. I would never even think of reaching for a shotgun when the coyotes are bugging my livestock. Accurate shots way more effective. My goto is my Mossberg MVP Varmint. Coyotes run like hell then stop and look back
 
There are two versions of the benelli m4... the 14" restricted and the 18.5 non restricted.
Go with the 18.5 non restricted version. And no need to plug it unless you are hunting with it.
 
I would just shoot the problem and shut my mouth about what I used to do it with but that's just me. But your talking to a guy who uses his mka 1919 to shoot trap at the club ever now and then.
 
You could just get a short pump shotgun. If a shotgun is a must.

A good 20 gauge will be much easier for them to handle and very nearly as effective as a 12 gauge with slug or 00 Buck loads. Overall much lighter than a 12 and you can keep extra barrel length for accuracy. No need to go restricted for this.

Restricted shotgun is a no-go.
You need a 20ga to get your lighter shotgun for the younger shooters to handle (weight/recoil) and reman within the law.

Stop suggesting tavors, m305's, SKS's, ect. Try ReAdInG the original post.
