restricted shotguns?

anything with an overall length less than 26(?) inches is restricted? same for shotguns right?

I ask because i recently put a pistol grip on my norinco shotgun that only has a 14 inch barrel...I haven't gotten around to measuring its overall yet tho.

The pistol grip doesnt have a stock attached, just a simple pistol grip

There is nothing in the LAW saying this is restricted. Lets keep our discussion to the law, not on heresay.

Frontier firearms was selling sub 26" backpacker firearms which were non-restricted.
 
Firearms control law is NOT a can of worms. It is a barrel of rattlesnakes.

That is neither restricted nor non-restricted. (You know what that means.)

My advice to you:

Disassemble that firearm right away. After you do that, delete all of the content in your post.

Once you've equipped yourself with a tape measure, you can then re-visit your project, taking particular care to ensure that the overall length - at a minimum - is 660mm.

Once you put the pistol grip on, you have 30 days to register it as restricted. If you do that it becomes restricted forever, you cannot change it back (it is considered a handgun and a handgun is always a handgun no matter what barrel you put on it). That makes it virtually unsaleable.
 
Kill this thread and put a either a butt stock or folding stock on it, trust me if there ever was a good that needs a support stock its the 12gauge
Seems to me you haven't shot the thing yet, you will quickly put one on if you did

How is it prohibited? they sell the grips in Canada and they sell the shotguns here too...at worst its now restricted....

um...I dont see the issue with posting a picture...this is a gun forum after all and its not like i created something illegal...

how does that work? i've seen many Berreta cx4 storm carbines that have been reclassified as non-stricted...
 
Last I heard from the RCMP Tech Center for verifiers, is that OAL can not fall below 26" by folding or collapsing. Pistol grip only does not fold or collapse.

However, in answer to Dlask's 8.5" bbl PG shotguns, they have now deemed that any shotgun with a bbl length less than 14" (or equal too, I can't remember) with a PG is now considered a "pistol" and all pistols are restricted (unless deemed prohib).

This is not speculation... this was last I checked (Jan 2010). It may have changed since then.

Your advice is wrong and nothing more than fear mongering. At worst he would have to re-register it as restricted as in this configuration, the shotgun becomes a handgun, according to the RCMP. Or the RCMP may consider it non-restricted, since it is an exchange of factory parts.

Show us the law that makes it illegal to post pictures of a non-restricted or restricted firearm.

Ice14 has the correct interpretation.

Easy enough to find out - call the CFP on Monday, get patched through to a tech, and email a photo. With a tape measure in the picture.

Or, take your creation to your local police service for their opinion.

Let us know how it works out.

As far as that goes, Ice14, Wildbore or anyone else could use your photo to get an opinion.

Might be a good idea, reduce speculation, and clarify the situation.

Here is another one that could be tried - take an AR-7, and replace the buttstock with a pistol grip. Easy to do. Would it remain non-restricted?

according to the overlords, a semi auto restricted rifle can become non-restricted by installing a >18.5'' barrel, but if its a 'handgun' its always a 'handgun' no matter what you do to it.

i.e. if you take a ruger charger receiver (10/22 pistol) and put a full stock and a 20'' barrel on it, its still a restricted handgun.

so once you assemble ou shotgun receiver into (what they consider) a handgun, apparently it can never be reassembled into a non-restricted long gun on paper.
