Here's a photoshopped picture of a Type 81, to make it restricted.
I'd sure like to buy something like this. Is someone gonna build one someday?

I kinda doubt you'll see TI have something like that built to import, I don't think there's a huge demand for restricted Type-81s. You could just have a smith rebarrel one with a restricted length barrel and have it registered appropriately. Probably cost ya about $1000 but I honestly don't see this happening any other way.

Considering the original type 81 was restricted length and Tactical Imports specifically ordered it with a longer barrel so as to be non restricted...

^^ this

Plus they will soon make the non-restricted T-81 prohibited via their next OIC so I doubt there is any call for a restricted version

A newly manufactured, short barrel would have to be installed.

Well, at this point you can either learn to make and install a shorter barrel and then get it verified or you can pay a gunsmith. I know there is at least one gun nut who has been rebarreling a couple of his own rifles for different rounds, you could look at how he does it.

The only other type81 i would buy would be a short (Restricted) one. not sure how short exactly, i would have to look at velocity by barrel length

restricted ! give trudeau another month and they will be prohibited

Yep. I can't imagine buying anything restricted with this government around. Registration just means you will be compelled to turn it in eventually or go to prison. Non-restricteds don't suffer from that nearly as much.

Since it would only be a range toy, why does it matter? As a reference, I have a 10" AR in 7.62x39 that averages ~2245fps with the copper washed chicom surplus.

I have NEVER seen a barrel marked with the length ... have you?

Yep, Dlask marks all their short barrels with length.

Here's one of their 8.5" 870 barrels on my shorty:

They also marked the length on the 9" barrel I got from them for a GSG-16 I later sold. If you look on their website you can see the same on their 12.5" 10/22 barrels
