There were many shooters that did fantastic for many reasons. Some placed in the top and others did not. It is the inside stories that I find interesting:
First time competitor Adam came in Thursday morning before sight in and said his scope was toast. He wanted to know if he could get a refund after sighting in if he could not fix the problem. He comes off the range with 2 others Thursday afternoon. They have a spare scope for him to use and they want to find a place to sight in. I suggest some local areas in the woods where they can do it safely. They head to the woods

. Scope gets sighted in. He stays and shoots the match. His brother pulls targets. They said they are coming back next year.
Cap travels from Alberta without a partner. He can’t make it for the sight in Thursday. His rifle goes down a few weeks before the match. He brings his spare rifle to use. Teams up with Adam.
Ryan and Mike B. do RO duties and stay in the bubble to have a fantastic match.
I run into Craig at my local range month before the match. We chat. He says “I haven’t shot much this year”

. I hope my partner does well.
Andrew drives in from Alberta with 2 or 3 hours of sleep. Throws one match out the window by shooting too many at one target

and still makes 3rd place.
Roy won the Rookie award last year. This year he hit 9 dots of doom

.
Gale out for the first time has a great shoot while hot gunning the match with John.
In the top 10, 3 guys from Kamloops and 2 from my home club, Port Coquitlam District Hunting and Fishing Club

.
Williams partner had to leave early. Mike B. helps out as spotter. William shoots 135 points on the 600 m nut check

. 17 hits on the large and 3 on the small (I believe that was the highest for that match).
At the end of the day a rifle case is laid out on the hood of a truck with a rifle resting on it. A group of gentlemen is gathered around it in deep conversation. This may be the only time in the year they get together, but at that moment they have something in common that brings them here

.
The stories go on and on....
This is what I think makes the match great. Gentlemen, ladies and friendly folks who love to shoot and will help each other out. Guys who will go out of their way to make the match better for others. Rising from adverse conditions to perform at the top of their game. This is what sport is all about and we have it here.
Each year the organizing committee tries to find ways to make the Championship better. In some areas there is success. Other areas not so much

. Each year we all try to do better.
Congratulations to all the winners and all those guys with the untold stories.
I want to congratulate the VPD guys on their performance. I did not catch them Sunday afternoon before I headed out.
Great to see David and Tom to come north across the border for the shoot. Thanks to Stan for putting out the good word about the shoot in Oregon.
Also thank you to the new guys from Calgary Tac for making the trip out for the first time.
I really appreciate the LE guys and the Mil guys coming out. Thanks also to the Civis. It is all 3 groups that make this The B.C. Championship.
See you all next year,
or maybe at the September 24th TAC Rifle shoot in Nanaimo?
